Das India Pale Ale hat Kultstatus.
Es ist ein Verwandter jener kräftigen Ales, die ab den 1830er Jahren in England und Schottland für die indischen Kolonien gebraut wurden. Daher der Name.
Um sie für den Seeweg nach Indien haltbar zu machen, wurden jene "India Pale Ales", kurz IPAs, mit einer höheren Stammwürze eingebraut, mit einer größeren Menge Hopfen vermengt und in Holzfässern nach Indien geschickt.* Dort kam ein fruchtig-aromatisches Bier an. Grundsätzlich sollte es noch verdünnt werden, schmeckte aber so gut, dass man es dabei beließ. Eine neue Biersorte war geboren.
Unser Rieder IPA ist eine naturtrübe, bernsteinfarbene Bierspezialität mit angenehmer Rezenz. Deutlich wahrzunehmen sind blumig-fruchtige Noten von Maracuja, Zitrus, Pfirsich und Ananas, bis es im Finale in einer kräftigen Bittere harmonisch ausklingt.

Eingetrübt bersteinfarben mit kleiner, weißer Schaumkrone. Vordergründig malziger Geruch mit fruchtigen Anklängen und etwas zurückhaltender agierendem Hopfen. Geschmacklich ein ähnliches Bild, zu erkennen sind Citrus und Pfirsich mit einem wieder hinter süßen Malzaromen zurücksteckenden Hopfen. Leichte Bitterkeit, mittlerer Körper, spürbare Kohlensäure. Gefällt mir sehr gut.

Hazy amber copper, larger white head, foamy and nonlasting. Sweet fruity nose, lots of resin, peach and some citruses. Sweet start, medium bitterness with solid malty biscuity back. Lasting aftertaste. Medium body. Ok.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of flowers, mild tropical fruit, yeast and honey with earthy note. Hazy brown amber color with thin creamy tan-like head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with medium sweet caramel and dandelion syrup, following is refreshing grassy, mild fruity and resinous, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and lively carbonation in palate. Flower power IPA...

330ml bottle, from trade with Sebelinz. Many thanks! Pours a deep reddish amber, small off-white head. Aroma of jammy marmalade. Taste bears some similar marmalade, caramel and resin notes. One of those old-school IPAs, sticky sweet with a solid malt presence. Not my go-to IPA style, but it's not bad.

500ml can. Pours a hazy dark orange with floaties and a small, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of biscuit malt, caramel, peach and a hint of pine. Sweet flavour of biscuit malt, caramel, peach and light grapefruit with a dry, mild, bitter pine finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, deep golden to amber colour with a thick off-white foamy head. Slightly bready malty aroma with notes of caramel and slightly citric hops, all in all quite cautious. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Bready, slightly biscuity malty base with fruity, mainly citric and slightly resiny hops; sweet-bitter and rather malt-accented finish with fruity and resin-spicy hops. Tastes like a Bock/Märzen-Ale hybrid. 28.VIII.17

Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy copper pour, minimal white layer on top. Good lacing. Nose strikes more as an APA, medium malty, medium hoppy. Some herbal notes. Medium body, thick texture. Medium to high carbonation, nice and fizzy. Balanced taste, malty sweet, hoppy bitter. Perhaps a bit too strong malt character for an IPA, personally I’d prefer stronger hop presence. However, it’s still tasty and refreshing. Aroma quite nice, caramel malts, grassy hops, herbs, slight tropical fruitiness. Drying mouthfeel, medium finish, moderately bitter. Overall, crisp and tasty. Feels more like an APA, though. Refreshing nonetheless.
