A classic Scotch Ale. Scotch ales are typically sweet and malty, with a very subdued dose of hops– just enough to provide balance. AleSmith Wee Heavy is a wonderful interpretation of this traditional Scotch style.

Too many variations of this on here. Bottle picked up online from a London based shop the name of which escapes me. Dark copper colour. Slim dense lasting tan foam. Sweet malts and sweet dried vine fruit. Big cake mix thing. Batter and everything. Taste is sweet and fruity with a nicely vinous bitterness. Slick and well boned. Fruity vinous finish still keeps that cake mix sweetness. Lovely gear in way better condition than I’d anticipated.

DEEP mahogany/reby color, almost opaque. Big creamy beige head that lasts forever. Aroma is VERY malty, and also smells of molases and caramel. Flavour is again, quite malty with a slight cognac type aftertaste, almost fruity, but malt at the same time. Finish is bitter, and extremely smooth, what a well made beer. A beautiful warmer to sit onthe couch, in a blanekt and sip all night.

Batch 1 corked 750mL bottle. Cork disintegrates, but the cork pieces are easy to skim off. Clear, greyish-beige with amber and tan hues. Small, beige head shows low retention. Juicy caramel-apple with just a pinch of smoke and black pepper. Long caramel date and raisin. This is like 20+ years old, not barrel-aged and there's almost no oxidation. It continues to improve with warming/breathing. Soft, sticky, malty, great attenuation with raisins, plums, dates, vanilla, sticky caramel and a hint of smoke on the finish. Very, very attenuated, but the flavors are immaculately delicate and intense. Somehow no oxidation. These old AleSmiths are about as expertly brewed of beers as there have ever been.

Creamy tan head stayed on a deep mahogany coloured still body. Huge aroma of raisin, dark spirits & toffee. Full bodied, smooth, creamy & nicely carbonated on the back. Malt, caramel, toffee, raisin & boozy dark spirits tastes. Winner!

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with creamy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, chocolate, coffee, dark bread, raisins and liquorice. Malty taste with notes of caramel, liquorice, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, dark bread, brown sugar, oak, toffee, a touch of mint and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Mellow and rounded mouthfeel. Very well balanced, hides the 10% really well. Great beer!

Poured from 1 pt 9.4 fl oz bottle (2017 vintage). Dark brown with light beige head. Lots of rich dark fruits, and caramel malt with a touch of chocolate and candied sugar upfront. Oily scotch finish with a nice warming alcohol feel. Good stuff.

0.75 l bottle from former 'Bierkompass', 2014 vintage, cellared for about four-and-a-half years. Clear, dark ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity aroma of caramel, molasses, raisins, prunes, dates and a touch of port. Fairly sweet, malty, slightly bitter, gently fruity taste of molasses, caramel, raisins, prunes, some gingerbread, a touch of vanilla and traces of port, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, minimally roasty, a little herbal-smoky and a bit warming finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Extremely well-balanced and moreish example of the style which held up so well over approximately five years. Would love to try the Bourbon BA version.
