A classic Scotch Ale. Scotch ales are typically sweet and malty, with a very subdued dose of hops– just enough to provide balance. AleSmith Wee Heavy is a wonderful interpretation of this traditional Scotch style.

Tap at Brewdog Glasgow takeover. Chocolate. Bit of caramel. Feels bit too boozy. Nice though. Should probably try again.

Bottle from Secret Santa. Dark brown color. Toffee, butter and a hint of banana in the aroma. Caramelly buttery flavor with banana and blackcurrant. Flowery hops. A firm hopbitterness lingers on in the aftertaste. Tannines, alcohol and rubber. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel. Exceptional balance.

Cloudy brown, tan head. Malt nose. Huge bodied malt profile, light alcohol heat. Seems more like a barleywine than a scotch ale.

75cl bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, June 19. Aged by me for 4 years, and thankfully still holding up well. Pours hazed deep brown, frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel, moist fruitcake. Taste is deep flavoursome, smooth balanced caramel sweet malt, fruitcake with a bitter whisper. Lovely stuff.

11th June 2019; Shrewsbury Beer Exchange meeting in Chez Sophie, cheers Mat for the 75cl bottle (Bottled in 2014). Beige head with lacing, dark brown body. Boozy chocolate brew with a light singed roastiness that gives a little bitterness late on. Glad I have eventually tried this famous brew.

RB backlog. Marzipane, malts, berries, toffee, light ash. Medium sweetness, mineralic, tart-ish notes, nice. Creamy but slick body with natural carbonation. Nicely done, malty but also fruity with intense almond notes.

Aus der Flasche am 2016-04 getrunken. Fettes, schön malziges Schottisches Ale. Ein Spiztenbier, doch es hat ein überrascht leichten Charakter doch einem etwas bittern Abgang.

750 ml bottle, 2017 vintage, shared by PowY, thanks!
Copper-brown body, with a big, creamy, lacing, beige head.
Aroma of toffee, dried fruits, cocoa, sherry, chocolate, slight smoke.
Tastes similar, with a bit more smoke.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes moderate roasty, moderate sweet, slightly smokey, a bit toasty, fruity, with toffee, some chocolate.
Very nice. Balanced and really smooth to drink for the ABV. Great mix of sweet, fruity, roasty/toasty notes, with a subtle smoke. Great example of a style, I don't like that much normally.
