A classic Scotch Ale. Scotch ales are typically sweet and malty, with a very subdued dose of hops– just enough to provide balance. AleSmith Wee Heavy is a wonderful interpretation of this traditional Scotch style.

On tap at Mohawk Bend in snifter. Aroma is moderately strong caramel and roasted malts. Appearance is dark brown mahogany, ring of off-white head with nice lacing. Taste is dark fruits and caramel--covers alcohol well. Palate is medium bodied with average texture, average to lively carbonation, finish is long lightly sweet fruit. Overall, a classic representative of the style.

Bottle from Kris Wines, Holloway. Brown pour with a beige head (soon goes). Aromas of sultanas, dates, toffee, sweet spice, raisin and caramel. Rich flavours of raisin, toffee, warm spice, lots of sweet dried fruit action. Rich, warming feel. Long smoky-sweet finish. Lovely stuff.

750ml bottle. Poured a dark brown color, ruby notes to it, tan head. Aroma was sweet, smooth notes of butterscotch, toffee. Flavor was light vanilla, some light sweet malts. Light booze warms my insides as I consume it. It’s a lot to take in, but it’s good.
