Strong Barrel aged Sour Ale. The Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien is a strong sour ale of mixed fermentation, aged during a year in old wine oak barrels. The oak aging and the action of wild yeasts confer this beer’s astonishing wide range of aromas. Its outstanding komplexity, balance, roundness and long finish, are the fruit of the meticulous blend of selected barrels. On the palate the blend reminds one of fruity red wines with a pronounced balsamic sourness. The best way to enjoy a Bon-Chien is to serve it in an elegant wine glass at 16°C or 60.6°F paired with a duck breast or some panned foie gras for example.

On tap at BrewDog Roppongi, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of Worcestershire sauce, plenty of oak, and a touch of red fruits. Flavour is very tart and nicely vinegary, with lot's of Worcestershire sauce, wood, oak, and acetic notes galore. A bit too acetic even for BFM, but has nice depth. Good stuff.

Rhubarb and light oak. Has evened out a lot at this point. Oaky finish. Dark brown pour with decent head. Tangy finish, some leather.

Bottled. Hazy copper colour, small white head. Aroma is oak, some vinegary acidity as well as fruity tones. Flavour is sweetish, fruity, wooden with a big time sourness and some vinegary acidity, but yet very nicely balanced with all the elements. A bit spicy tones. Long sourish berries/fruits in the aftertaste.

Bottled (From Alko Web). Hazy deep amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, really tart, some wood and mild spiciness with some alcohol sweetness to it as well. Flavour is really alcoholic sweet meeting a super tart fruity and wooden touch, ending up being a nicely balanced thing. Somehow there's a slight vanillaish edge to it as well.

brown colour, moderate sized beige head, which disappears quite quickly; aroma of sour cherry juice woody, some acetone, and red wine notes; taste has the same notes with more intensive acetone, some tannins and minimal dark chocolate; great one

Lovely as always. Balsamic vinegar, sweet and sour acidity that is punch and intense at first and then mellows out over time, slowly revealing warm notes of wood, vanilla and spices.
