This is our big bad birthday breakfast barley wine collab with Wander Beyond. The original Barley wines were made with the first running’s of a brew. So we did two mash’s to make 40 hl of wort in the copper with all pale malts and oats to give a pancakey grist. Then boiled it for 6 hours to get OG up high as…

Can. Light haze on this reddish amber, tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, pretty light for the abv, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft creamy malts but tempered with something quite savoury. Light caramel and toffee in the background. Blackberry fruits are well integrated with a little citric peel bitterness. Smooth and slightly bitterish finish. Smooth and generally hides the abv well, but I wish I had another can to age for a year or two, could do with a little mellowing on the bitterness front.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Ruby red. Light haze. Ring of off white head. Nose has blueberries. Caramel. Not a deal else. Taste is sweet, mostly. Some boozy bitterness. Medium body. Fine carbonation. Sweet and boozy finish. What is this supposed to be? I like Wander Beyond a lot, but this is ridiculously average.
