Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo. Pours a mostly clear copper to rust with a full finger of off-white foam that lingers. Lovely vanilla, cherry and oak aromas that permeate the nose. Tamarind comes out as it warms with a peppery, ginger note. Creamy oak and vanilla and cherry again. Super smooth, full bodied, but not overly heavy or boozy. A great American take on a classic Belgian style. One of my favorites from the share.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2018 vintage. Pours crystal clear dark ruby red, light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. No lacing, some streaming carbonation and clinging bubbles on the glass. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus zest, peach, plum, pear, apricot, date, cherry, tamarind, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, vanilla, brown sugar, brown bread, and roasted nuts; with light notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, tamarind, vanilla, oak barrels, and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus zest, peach, plum, pear, apricot, date, cherry, tamarind, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, vanilla, brown sugar, brown bread, and roasted nuts; with light notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness, wine/tamarind tang, and light yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus zest, peach, plum, pear, apricot, date, cherry, tamarind, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, vanilla, brown sugar, brown bread, roasted nuts, light leather/funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, tamarind, vanilla, oak barrels, and dark/bready malt flavors; with an amazing malt/tang/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering sour/tang/tartness, and yeast/oak spiciness. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and fairly acidic/tangy/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a fantastic flavored barrel aged dark sour ale! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, tamarind, vanilla, oak barrels, and dark/bready malt flavors; verry smooth and fairly crisp/clean/refreshing to drink; with the mellowly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish, not overly lactic. Amazing balance of Brett/Bacteria complexity, tamarind, vanilla, oak presence/integration, and dark/bready malts against acidity. The dark/stone fruit character of the tamarind fits in perfectly with everything else. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example as expected.
