Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

Bootle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy but stable light tan head. Dark aroma of chocolate, malt, and caramel. Roasty and chocolatey flavour, wih notes of malt and caramel and a touch of coffee beans. Lingering, sweetish aftertaste. Warming alcohol presence. good.

Bottle sampled at a tasting event. From notes. Roasty coffee and dark chocolate. Boozy with a hint of dark fruits. Very good.

bottle@Voldby Ølmesse - Dark brown to black pour, with a light tan head. Roasted malts, caramel, burnt sugars, choc, some slight dark fruits and nuts, slight smoke, complex, with a good sweet/bitter balance. Very nice.

Bottle. Darkish brown with a light tan head that never quite disappears. Aroma of iced mocha, some nuts. Very sweet mocha, chicory, grain, burnt sugars, moderate bitterness. A just OK strong beer that I suspect is intended as a critique.

650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.9%, OG 1092, IBU 72.45. Very dark brown to black colour, ruby in the highlights, large beige head. Moderate aroma, mild coffee notes, hints of dark chocolate. Sweet flavour with plenty of coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, some bitterness in the finish. Quite good.

Cask at the Hay Merchant, Houston, 21/05/13. Listed as 10.1% ABV. Mid black with a good sized tan head. Nose is roast malt, light chocolate, dark fruits, sugars, surprisingly on the thin side for such a big beer! Far more depth in the flavour with dark malts, rich chocolate, liqourice, molasses, light roast, mineral notes, touch of booze. Full bodied, soft carbonation, roast finish wth dark chocolate evident. A great impy, well balanced, drinkable, alocohol well integrated, just suprised the nose lacked a little something for me!

Fra flaske på Cardinaltreff juni-13: generelt merker jeg lite humlepreg i denne, hverken i smak eller aroma. Den har en syrlig snert som frisker opp, men ettersmaken kan best karakteriseres som daff. Ikke særlig imperial på noe vis, kanskje et bevis på at det finnes beskjedne amerikanere? Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary er den i hvertfall ikke.

Very dark brown with off-white head that resides quickly. Decent aroma of roasted malt/barley. Some chocolate and red berries. Cigar box. Some smokedness in taste. Balanced aftertaste. Round moutfeel

Bottle shared. Pours almost black with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, malt, biscuit. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
