Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

Bottle at Craft Heads in Shibuya. A malty sweet aroma, a nice chocolate malt flavor with a good mouthfeel. It is a solid stout.

Happy Gnome Firkin Fest 2013. Low carbonation and blacl color. Moderate hops, ans lots of roasted malt. Heav y palate. Some soy sauce. This reminds me of Surly Darkness, but not quite that good.

Pours pitch black with a tiny white head. Aroma of roasty malts, dark chocolate, sweet syrup, grainy malts and toffee. Taste is sweet and slightly roasty with notes of sweet syrup, dark chocolate and grainy malts. Finish is smooth and sweet with hints of dark chocolate. Okay, quite sweet and grainy imperial stout.

0.65l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a dark brown one with a small quickly sidesticking light brown head. On the nose there is tons of chocolate and mocha! It smells like you have just opened a dark box of chocolate (like in Forrest Gump) with traces of cold acidic coffee and vanilla. Smells really nice! It has a light oily mouthfeel and a average to soft carbonation level with these small prickling bubbles you sometime get. Yeah, the chocolate box continues in the taste. Dark and bittersweet, mocha and caramelized burned fudge. Really really tasty! A delicious beer. 26.10.2012

Shared bomber, poured to tulip. This is not your typical RIS. More dark brown than the typical black. Super hoppy nose, but not so much on the palate. Fudgey, milk chocolate, light on the bitterness and roasted malt. I can’t rate it up there with others in the style, but I have to give some points for a good value.

Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) The Bergen tasting crew, and Gunnar. Pours a pitch black colour with a medium light brown head. The aroma is a bit sour with coffee, tar, dried fruits, chocolate truffles and leather. More dried fruit in a nice roasted flavour along with dark chocolate, frudge and coffee. Has a soft and oily mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A great imperial stout with a nice flavour.

Bottle. Pours opaque dark brown to black with a medium tan head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malt, coffee and molasses. Flavor is much the same, medium sweet and quite boozy throughout. Light coffee bitter finish, plus a lot of alcohol warming. Not bad by any means, but a little too alcohol forward, and lacking the complexity of the really good imperials.

Bomber courtesy of Stefan (non-RB). Pours black with a frothy mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace. Smell is sweet with cereal, alcohol, toasted malts, sweetened coffee, dusty corona powder and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, cereal, old dark bread, cocoa powder, coffee, hay, burnt sugar and hints of lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and slightly bitter with toasted malts, dusty cocoa powder, hay, coffee, burnt caramel and burnt sugar.

Purchased at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at a friends house prior to going to see the movie Looper. Appearance is pitch black, moderate thickness, with a huge tan head. Aroma of roasted chocolate malt, kind of sweet, a bit boozey as well. Taste is very good, a bit sweeter than typical imperial stouts, but I’m liking it. Good good stuff.

Medium brown head. Opaque black body. Roasty caramel and toffee aroma with soy sauce, butterscotch, and chocolate notes. Dry-sweet strawberry malts and chocolate taste with butterscotch and resin notes. Full-bodied. Smooth, yet faintly sharpish mouthfeel. Dryish chocolatey nougat and toffee aftertaste with burnt honey and strawberry notes. Lovely, but perhaps a bit sweet and slack. (0.65l bottle from Kihoskh, Copenhagen. Bought last year.)
