Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

65 cl bottle @ hotel room, Santa Rosa
Aroma is slightly sour with soy sauce and coffee. Flavour is somewhat tart with roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, licorice and soy sauce. Some hops in the finish. Not sure if I like this or not; the licorice and coffee elements are nice but the soy sauce isnโ€™t.

Post CBC in the Hotel - โ€™Oh crap I have bought too many bottles againโ€™! Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Mild malty beer with a trace of marmite. Brown malts. Surprisingly wimpy for a big RIS. I expect better from Lagunitas.

1700th rating. Bomber. Pours a very dark brown with a small frothy beige head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is roasted malt with raisin and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with a rich malt with brown sugar and chocolate flavor with a nice light dry finish. Easy to drink hiding the alcohol well, a very good Imperial stout from Lagunitas.

22 oz bottle. Pours nearly black with a tan head. Aroma is a bit light for an imperial stout, cocoa, brown sugar, little roast. Flavor has cocoa, brown sugar, some roasty coffee hints and some tea hints. Again, fairly tame for an imperial stout. Itโ€™s pretty nice, but not overall exciting.

Dark opaque brown or black color, tiny off-white head. Light roasted aroma with hints of licorice. Medium to full-bodied. Quite sweet imperial stout. Lots of licorice, toasted maltyness and dark chocolate. Aftertaste has some hops. Good.

Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, licorice, coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long roasted, chocolate, coffee finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Draught at the brewery. Black with lace. Coffee and wood nose like a dry stout, with cocoa. Sweet cocoa and cafรฉ au lait flavor, creamy, alcoholic. Sweet, though it finishes dry. Steady but not so exciting.

Bottle @ home. Black appearance with a small, light brown head. Roasty, milk chocolate, licorice, light vanilla, rich aroma. Milk chocolate, vanilla, pretty roasty chocolate malty, light anise flavor. Dessert, chocolate and vanilla aftertaste. Pretty tasty, dessert-like Imperial Stout but not amazing.
