Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

Bottle @ Voldby beerfest. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, caramel. Taste is roasted malt, caramel, oak, coffee, chocolate, berries,dried dark fruit. Full body, soft carbonation, lasting both sweet and bitter finish. Very smooth and good. 270811

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavor. Candy, power barley wone meets Impy stout. Long great heavy bitter finish. Creamy palate.

Tap out of a cask at the Stags head. Pours black with small beige head. Nose is of toffee and cola. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, earth, bananas, and toasted nuts. slightly watery with huge depths of flavor but quite good none the less.

Bottle (listed at 9.9% for this release). Pours with a deep brown to a near black body with a large, medium brown head. Creamy, retentive, some lace. Wish it was a bit darker and/or a bit more oily. Aromas of dark fruit esters (plums, dates, others), leather, light smoke, bitter chocolate, malt flavors continue with a slight cereal note, and then further, malty and toasty notes. Thankfully caramel notes are slightly restrained. Some berries. Medium alcohol but fair considering the ABV. Light tobacco and deeper roast characteristics (coffee among others, light tar). Flavors of smoke, leather, rich roast, chocolate, quite bitter (but with minimal hop flavor). Balance towards the bitter and roast over sweet/richness. Decently smoke and that characteristic lingers. Malty is toasty, bready, but again restraining in caramel. Very light dark fruit esters (contained). Some bitter roast notes. Light richness in the finish. Medium to lively bubbles for the style. Rich, full bodied, some warming (but well contained for what it is). Smooth and creamy. Not harsh, astringent or fusel. Overall: well done, but not exceptional in any defining way.

Bottle. Black with a minimal head. Nice roasted aroma with coffee, chocolate and some caramel. The same in the good taste. Not that heavy but with a pleasant mouth feel. The aftertaste was long and with a descent bitterness. "Easy to drink".

Pours pitch black into a snifter. Mocha micro head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Slightly thin with Sweet chocolate and licorice upfront turning to soy before the lasting espresso finish.
