Made with Highly roasted malted barley, and plenty of it, to give the beer an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. Just the way the 18th century Russian royalty liked it.

Bottle, 22oz, courtesy of Pinball. It pours a very dark brown body, clear, and with a minimal tan head. Meaty, coffee-ish aroma with dark chocolate. Some hoppyness. Dry in the mouth, full body. Fine bitterness in the flavor, with coffee and roasted malts. Pleasant hops in the lasting finish. Meaty, coffeeish maltyness too. A quite nice one, but a bit too meaty I think. 100814

Bottled@SBWF2010. Deep ambery brown colour with not too much head. Aroma is liquorice, dark dry fruits, toffee as well as some mild black malty ashyness. Flavour is quite much the same with liquorice, chocolate and toffee being the most evident.

Key Food, Brooklyn 22oz ($5): Pours a black body with a brown head. Roasted malts and some sugar. Milky chocolate... Alcohol taste is somewhat present throughout, but it is extremely creamy and milky. Not really at all on the bitter side, but more just tasty and sweet malts. The roasted malts and the modicum of hops combine together to give a nice little finish with a little more bite. Not the best imperial, but this one might actually be sessionable (if such a thing were possible... the bizarre Lagunitas description is strangely fitting).

22 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a deep amber glare and creamy, tan and lasting head. Aroma is chocolate and dark roasted malt. Sweet caramelish, dark to acidic roasted malt and chocolate. Distinct bitterness lurking through. A bit too dominant on the acidic hard roasted malt flavours. Thick chocolate, dark roasted malt and bitter into a lasting dark malty finish. Goes fantastic with BBQ steaks and fries :)

Bottle: Poured a medium black color stout with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of coffee is dominating with some roasted malt also noticeable. Taste is a nice mix between some coffee and black chocolate from roasted malt with light vinous notes and dry raisin appearing as the beer warms. Body is a bit thin but has a creamy texture which I appreciate. Not bad overall and akin to a session imperial stout if such a thing can exist.
