Brewed since 1994, our Black Chocolate Stout has itself become a modern classic, heralded the world over. It achieves its dark chocolate aroma and flavor through the artful blending of six malts and months of aging. Properly kept, it will improve in the bottle for many years.

The Aromas, while not overly complex, are a nice balanced, Pleasant blend of cocoa, roast and dark malt. Flavors are not as balanced as the aromas. Flavors are bittersweet with sweet having the edge along with some molasses and licorice. Rose comes out more in the Finish nice rich beer.

Old rating rerated 14.05.2018, 12 oz bottle (best before 09.2014) shared with a college @ hotel room in Sandane:
Nice fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish mineraly, dark sugar, metal tank, chocolate, bark, hay, minerals, dark malts, butterscotch, weeds, sour coffee, alcohol, licorice. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish mineraly, weeds, minerals, bark, anise, sour coffee, hay, paper, soil, butterscotch, fruit stones, grass. Medium bitterness, slightly watery and harsh mineraly mouthfeel. Way over the top...

Winter 2017 edtition 355 ml bottle served in large snifter. Pours pitch brown, bright and dense, with dark beige head that lasts little but leaves a long-lingering thin layer on top. Aroma is vanilla, chicory, milk chocolate, coffee beans. Mouthfeel is soft, creamy and velvety; very low carb and intense (yet not aggressive) bitterness.

On tap. Pours an opaque black with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, caramel, licorice, roast, salty toffee and warming booze in a dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium to full body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle, from Mr Foley’s, Leeds. Backlog entry. Entering my historic scores for US beers whilst visiting New York. No tasting notes kept, just rating. But very good.
