Leather Britches is an old southern method for preserving late-summer green beans. The beans are harvested, left in their pod and hung up to dry. Dehydrating on the string, they start to look like leather pant legs. Brewed in collaboration with Heidi Geist of the 48 Beer Project, we’re paying homage to a farm tradition with this dark, rich porter featuring a malty finish and hints of dark fruit and chocolate.

Can to becher glass.
Appearance: dark brown in color with a finger's worth of khaki foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: toasted nuts, cocoa powder, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, light notes of dark fruits
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas to a toasty sweet quality with a light bitter tone underneath; finishes semi-dry with the nuts, cocoa powder and dark fruits
Texture: medium bodied, sessionable; some smoothness on the tongue and some dryness too
Overall: nicely done English porter I would welcome again.

$4.80 pint can, WW. Hazy to murky dark brown with an inch+ of tan head. Nose has roast, raspberry, cocoa. Cocoa, raspberry, chocolate and chocolate candy (just a hint). Oh I'd love to love this, but honestly this is just OK.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown with a full 2 fingers of beige foam that lingers. Head dissipates and lingers like a cappuccino. Vanilla bean, roasted coffee and cacao husks on the nose. Creamy on the palate with roasted malt and coffee, vanilla bean husk and piney hops. A bit light, but in line for style. Lingering bitterness that leans a bit acrid. Some unripe plum and raisin notes. Leans dry and lightly sour with good bitterness.
