On tap at Bishops Arms Avenyn, Gothenburg. The beer looks nice in the glass, with a clear, copper-colored body and a small, beige head on top, leaving nice lacings. Citrusy hoppy aroma with roasted malt. Some piney notes too. Roasted malt makes a nice background for citrusy, piney hops giving a moderate bitterness. Even though there’s a good sweetness in the beer, it feels quite dry in the mouth. Full body. It has a long finish with citrus and pine dominating. Really pleasant and quaffable. (080709)

Big beige shiny head rises out of the glass and seems to last forever. Deep brownish red body. Roasty malty aroma with some faint vinegary notes. Dry smoky roasty peppery taste with wooden charcoal notes. Quite sweet, but also faintly acidic. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry roasty resiny aftertaste. Dry roasty resiny aftertaste with some perfume. Nice! (0.5l draft at the Rover, Göteborg.)

Bottle at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007
Nice dark amber color; big head. The aroma is not too strong, some malt and hop, light aroma of coffee grounds. Good body, good malt and caramel flavor, with some bitter toffee too, and quite high bitterness. Very well done Brown Ale, the hop is also a bit fruity and resiny (but covered by the caramel).

(Draught at Glenfiddich Warehouse No 68, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy off-white head. Fruity nose with dark fruit, yeast, hints of smoke and lots of earthy hops. Fruity taste with dark fruit, caramel, yeast and lots of earthy hops in the finish. More tasty and bitter than any other brown ale I’ve tried. Probably not true to the style, but actually better. Rather magnificent, actually. (7/4/8/4/15=3.8) Rerate: (Bottle, 2 March 2024) Chestnut brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of fruit cake, nuts, dried fruit, orange peel, caramel and earthy hops. Malty, slightly roasted taste with nuts, caramel, fruit cake, dried fruit, tobacco, orange peel and a mild earthy bitternes in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Still, more of a bitter than a brown ale. Nice one.

(bottle, shared by DerDoppelbock) Chestnut brown colour with a short off-white frothy layer. Moderately sweet grainy and spicy floral and herbal hop aroma, also slightly vinous with fruity notes. Bitter, slightly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dark malty taste with a well-balanced fruitiness; dry and lasting bitter hoppy finish (05.10.06).

Coca-cola colour with coca-cola head, receding but stabling itself at 1/2 cm. Very hoppy nose, absolutely unsettling for a "brown ale". Dry hops, hopbails. Strange mix of sweet, lightly bitter hopstaste, with a short-lived metallic edge, and a difficult to discern touch of sourness. On top of that, I find something salty too, apart from obvious bread flavours. It’s sounds perfect balance, but it isn’t at all! Medium bodied. Fresh hoppiness is counteracted by the bready flavours and doughy MF. It’s pleasing in many ways, yet its unbalanced, lopsided style doesn’t do it any favours. Big thanks to B&A brothers!
