Brandy Barrel-Aged Imperial Milk Stout
Hardywood Hoax is our base imperial milk stout, Cassowary, aged in brandy barrels. (these barrels housed grape brandy). Hoax is another behemoth of a beer, joining its fellow crafty misfits, Trickery, Foolery & Ruse at 11% ABV, yet remaining unbelievably smooth. Expect a super chewy milk stout with bold oak tannins and notes of grape jam, ripe plums and dried dates.

On tap at DRBT 10. Pours black with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, licorice, toffee, dates. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, nice sweetness, hides alcohol well, very nice.

Bottle. Poured a nearly pitch black, motor oil color with a small tan head. Aroma was big booze, brandy, light spice. Flavor was molasses, dried fruits, smooth brandy. Smooth, with a touch of sweetness and a little alcohol heat.

Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of beige head that dissipates. Big milk chocolate and cacao nib forward nose with oak and deep purple to black grape aromas. Big, bold and decadent on the palate with a creamy chocolate milk-like texture. Booze, oak and dark fruit come out as it warms. A touch hot, but the flavors work well. --- Beer merged from original tick of Hoax on 13 Jan 2019 at 11:32 - Score: 8
