The name sort of says it all. John Maier, our Brewmaster, wanted to create a beer that defied traditional style definitions. The result was a remarkably hoppy yet balanced and malty ale that quickly became a cult favorite in our Newport brewpub. But what was it? It was not quite a barley wine and not quite a double or imperial IPA. Who really cares about putting beers into narrow categories? Great beer is great beer - just drink it and enjoy! 24°P. 8 Ingredients: Weyermann & Bohemian Malts; Bravo, Amarillo, Falconer's FLight & Warrior Hops; Free Range Coastal Water & Pacman Yeast.

Sampled on draft at Tapped this beer poured a murky orange-tan color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet pine, orange and a bit of yeastiness. The flavor was bitter with a harsh alcohol presence, rough grapefruit, pine, orange and medicine. Amazing long finish. Moderately full bodied.

Bottle split at Sentinel, thanks to James, 20/05/16. Hazed orange amber with a decent off white head. Nose is sweet toffee, light biscuit malt whisper, spice, booze tunes, fruit esters. Taste comprises bitter orange, sweet licks, caramel dollop, light earthy hop, honeycomb. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough barley wine.

On draught during the "Fat Head’s Hits Bob’s Bar" event on 05/17/2016. Hazy orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, malt and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of piney hops, caramel malt and citrus, The finish is fruity hops up front with a lingering toffee and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at P&P Charleston. Hazy golden with small white head. Malt aroma, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is malt and alcohol. Too much alcohol.

Not bad. Fascinating beer. A bit oxidised though. Would like to try it fresh. 88 IBUs is good.

Bottle from Wholefoods, Kensington, London. A hazy orange/amber coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Sweet, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes incredibly sweet, almost syrup like, malty, caramel, honey, orange, slight bitterness. This could only be an American beer, really complex, I rather like it. Dial down the sweetness and it would be even better. An interesting barley wine nevertheless.

On tap at the brewery tap Sf. Clouded golden / orange coloured pour with a thick off white froth. Aroma is subdued, solvent, nail polish remover, caramel. And toffee apple. Flavour is composed of harsh grains, toffee, apple, harsh solvent alcohol bite. Palate is semi sweet, frothy, highish carbonation, harsh solvent finish. Not a fan headache inducing.
