19th Nov 2018. Monthly Share Group meeting in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury, only three of us this time. 33cl bottle; BB 23rd Oct 2019, brought by me. Dark body, black in fact, large crown of tanned foam on top, lasted well too. Malty throughout, dry and slightly smokey in the finish.

Black with thin creamy head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of bittersweet roasted malts. Texture is creamy. Sweeter notes of liquorice come through in the finish.

330ml bottle, from trade with Dunklermessias. Many thanks! Pours black, medium tan head. Nice roasty ashy chocolate on the nose with coconut hints. Taste is medium bodied, with a good dry roast character that builds, some soft liquorice moments, underlying chocolate, some ashy elements. Nice stout.

Finally a “Baltic” beer from this brewery that makes a bit more sense than the tripel and dubbel in this series, considering the old Baltic porter tradition – but this is a top-fermented stout apparently and therefore not a Baltic porter after all, so I am still left with the unanswered question as to why this brewery gathers all these beers under a brand named “Baltic”… Anyway, thanks Craftmember for sharing the bottle, apparently – like the others – available at the Albert Heijn supermarkets and packed in a paper wrap. Moussy, greyish pale beige, opening head, black robe with translucent burgundy, hazy edges. Aroma of caramel sauce, pecan nuts, muesli, dried figs, elderberries, hints of tea, bitter chocolate, clay and some wet dog. Sweetish onset with thin sourish edge, ‘dried’ fruity notes of fig, raisin, date; medium carbonated, soft mouthfeel. Slick toffeeish malt sweetishness with a bittering toasted-nutty edge makes up the main flavour, with a herbal, hayish hop bitter touch in the end, but still it is the sweet part (caramel) that keeps prevailing. Could have been way more roasted bitter for a stout: if anything, this is a brown porter style beer rather than anything true stout-like, but enjoyable enough for what it is.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque black with a small, beige head. Mellow cocoa and licorice aroma, but no harsh roastiness. Solid, malty body, malty sweetness, licorice, slightly minerally/salty. Alcohol well hidden for the style. Nice one. 020517

Gut gemachtes typisches Stout was sehr süffig daherkommt.
