Beer with character that is balanced and very fruity.
Schaerbeek cherries originate from the Brussels Region, and up until the 1960s these local sour cherries were used exclusively for blending kriek. Unfortunately, the introduction on the market of pasteurised and sweetened industrial lambics marked the beginning of the end of the cultivation of this superb fruit as brewers of fake lambic switched instead to syrups and artificial flavours. Schaerbeek cherries are very delicate, and the harvest is unpredictable at best. On average, we still manage to acquire one or two tonnes per year from local producers, who are now few and far between.
The lambics we select must have enough character, while still retaining a fruity side. It takes two to three months of soaking to make Kriek Lou Pepe, and due to the very limited supply of fruit available production of this superb beer is limited to a few thousand bottles a year.

18/IV/22 - 75cl bottle @ Cantillon Quintessence (Brussels), BB: n/a (2022-360)
Pretty clear dark purple beer, small creamy pink head, stable, a little adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of cherries, super fruity, nice acidity, a little oxidized. Amazing how well this has held up! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: gentle acidity, very fruity, cherries, pretty dry, a bit oxidized, lots of cherries, cherry pits, some marzipan notes. Aftertaste: acidic, fruity, cherries, summer in a glass! Lovely beer, has held up great!

’08 vintage bottle thanks to Destructo. Ruby red pour with a pinkish head. Raspberry, vanilla, and oak aromas. Tart cherry, sour raspberry, semi-acidic with light funk, and oaky notes.

Bottle at the brewery, Brussels. 2018 edition. deep glögg like aroma, with notes of wine and some sweet haribo cherries. A lovely deep red colour. A mature cherry flavour with that Cantillon sherbet fizz. Felt very mature and all round fabulous.
Fantastic stuff ..

Deep clear red with a small white head. Nice cherry notes and a bit of pit. Soured cherry, light pit and a nice finish. Solid for the age.

Cherry explosion. Sweet, tart, acidic, smooth. Earthy tannins, leather, some funk. Excellent.
Nose: straight funky cherry. Palate: super soft, nice fruit and a very strong funk and sweet finish
