Beer with character that is balanced and very fruity.
Schaerbeek cherries originate from the Brussels Region, and up until the 1960s these local sour cherries were used exclusively for blending kriek. Unfortunately, the introduction on the market of pasteurised and sweetened industrial lambics marked the beginning of the end of the cultivation of this superb fruit as brewers of fake lambic switched instead to syrups and artificial flavours. Schaerbeek cherries are very delicate, and the harvest is unpredictable at best. On average, we still manage to acquire one or two tonnes per year from local producers, who are now few and far between.
The lambics we select must have enough character, while still retaining a fruity side. It takes two to three months of soaking to make Kriek Lou Pepe, and due to the very limited supply of fruit available production of this superb beer is limited to a few thousand bottles a year.

Bottle, 750 ml at the brewery. Vintage 2018. Nice juicy cherries, but not as intensive as 2016. Smooth texture. Bit falling to the aftertaste.

1,5l bottle at the brewery. Intense smell, cherries, marzipan, spices, super marzipan forward, lovely smell. Full body, soft carbonation. Tastes of marzipan, cherries, jammy, nutty, berry forward, vanilla, stone fruits. Finishes lightly sour with notes of cherries, marzipan and spices. Lovely, lovely, heavy on the marzipan and spices. So smooth

14/VIII/21 - magnum bottle, shared @ Cantillon brewery (Brussels), BB: n/a (2021-786) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!
Clear deep ruby red beer, small creamy to aery pink head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, some cinnamon, nice cherries, very intense, super aromatic and opening up as the beer warms up in the glass. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lovely, lots of cherries, nice acidity, dry, bit oxidized, spicy touch. Aftertaste: lots and lots of cherries, even after 8 years, bit sweet, cherry pits, some cinnamon, bit oxidized, very fruity, juicy, lovely beer!!

Bottle thanks to sjogro. Yes it's very nice. Showing some age and funk, but still very fruity. Awesome as always.
