The brew that opened our doors in 1997, Abbey Ale brought Trappist-style brewing to America.
This full-bodied dubbel pours a deep burgundy with a fluffy head and enchanting aromas. Rich, fruity flavors and hints of honey, caramel and toffee linger before giving way to a long, dry finish. Brewed with Belgian specialty malts and a variety of spices, it pairs well with roasted meats, pâtés and terrines, and soft cheeses.

Bottle, probably 09 vintage. Bit Hazy deep brown liquid with medium light brown head. Aroma of dried fruit, chocolate, raw sugar, toffee, tangerine, bread, light spices and light port wine. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of toffee, port wine, raw sugar and bread. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Really nice

W smaku miod, figi i sliwki. Slodki finisz, marmoladowo-owocowy. Pysznosc godna poleceniu.

Do not open this cold! Pours a muddy brown with thick, creamy head. Lots of sticky lacing coats the glass. Aroma of dried fruits, raisins, sweet malt, molasses. Taste is initially bitter, mildly sweet with a medium weight and abrupt finish. Pretty good approximation of the style.

355ml bottle picked up at Nina’s Mini Market. Pours a decent fawn-coloured head over a cloudy, dark brown body. Dried fruity aroma, some apricot to it. Semi-sweet fruity taste, apricots and prunes. Dry bittersweet finish. Fine bodied and smooth on the swallow. Quite nice (hotel room, Edinburgh 11.08.2013).

750ml bottle, 11C. Clear dark reddish brown with a large lasting pale beige head. Gentle aroma of prunes and raisins, caramel, bread, light spices, maybe a touch of chocolate. All those are there in the taste along with an unfortunate metallic tinge. Either the malt side of things is not as luscious as it came across in the aroma or it dries out too quickly and too much. Alcohol sticks out a bit. Metal there at the finish too. Looks great though.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury. Dark brown colour, lasting beige head. Like the Rare Vos, this has a metallic twang to the peppery hop finish. Less estery than the Vos, this is more like a strong brown beer. Hides the alcohol well. Some dubbel characteristics after a time. OK.
