Coffee Milk Stout
A little brewers' magic transforms locally roasted Arabica beans and a variety of specialty malts into a creamy, intense coffee stout. Enjoy before it disappears.
Arabicadabra is brewed with a cold coffee extract made at the brewery using a combination of fair trade, organic Nicaraguan coffee beans and Sumatra coffee beans. Lactose is also used for creaminess (those with dairy allergies or sensitivities should take note). It was inspired by Milchkaffe, another specialty Bell's beer.

Bottle pour into pub glass from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. Appearance is virtually opaque black--very dark brown with ruby with light source directly behind--with significant light-colored floaties, light sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width light brown head with fair retention and minimal spotty lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee (bordering on ash), milder dark chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is bitter roasted coffee, sweet roasted malt/chocolate and lactose. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, strong aroma and flavor but the coffee is a bit too dominant, overshadowing the base stout and too far to the bitter/burnt side.

Bottle. Very dark brown; a tan head fades to a coat. Aroma of coffee - very dark roasted with some light berries and citrus - a little caramel syrup. The coffee's really nice but too much for me. Medium bodied, medium low carbonation. Neither as sweet nor as dominated by coffee as suggested by the aroma. Slight bitterness joins a mild astringency at the end. Nicely balanced.

$2 bottle at market district. Pours big and black with a darker tan head. Smell is strong cold coffee. Taste is strong cold coffee with perhaps, a little alky added. What else can be said? It has a coffee finish? Obvious to the most casual of observers. Like so many other stronger black coffee beers. What -ehv vah. Not impressed.

Super deep dark brown coloured body with a ridiculously nice three centimetre tall light brown head that fades to just about a single centimetre, but almost looks nitrogenated, despite it being just normal carbon dioxide. Aroma of pure coffee with a touch of lactose in the nose, some roasted malt, light alcohol and prunes, but the coffee is very strong and almost smells like a coffee fruit/rind/peel that's been roasted (as a 'coffee tea') versus any sort of on-bean or brewed coffee compilation. Medium-bodied; Super nice rich coffee, roasted malt and light lactose balance with a good dose of sugars from caramel, toffee, earth and lactose with a bitter flavour from the coffee and a touch of substance and structure from the roasted malts and perhaps a touch of oatmeal. Aftertaste is balanced, well-structured, bittered but pungent and quite strong in every flavour - from the very deep coffee to the oats and grain with a lactose and sweetness and light alcohol note that shows through. Overall, a very nice coffee-based stout that almost seemed like just a porter on the pour, but turned out to be a very rich and deep beer throughout with an amazing coffee and sweetness throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Springfield, Virginia on 15-December-2017 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on 15-May-2017 exactly six months later.

12 ounce bottle. Opaque black, brown color. Small creamy tan head. Robust roasted malt nose hints at dark coffee and green peppers. First sip yields notes of roasted coffee beans and milk chocolate. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. As the brew warms, notes of black walnuts and sweet espresso come forward. This is a really delicious Coffee Milk Stout.
