Poured at Shelton Festival, dark copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is caramel, wood, peat. Medium body, caramel, wood, nice sweetness, very good.

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours a clearish copper with a finger of foam. Leather and tobacco forward nose, bit of smoked wood and oak. Light on the palate, tobacco, cherry and faint roasted toffee. A sophisticated person’s beer.

Sample at Monk’s Kettle. This beer is a dark copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to a dense film. Small sheets of lacing. Malt, caramel and fruit aroma. Light to medium body with flavors of roast malt, caramel and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with a caramel and peat malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap at Temescal. It pours an amber color with a light khaki head. The aroma is toasted with light notes of cocoa, fig, bread and toffee. The flavor is soft and balanced. Bready malt, a little toffee, cocoa and raisin bread. All flavors are subtle. Negligible bitterness. Clean and smooth on the palate. Pretty nice for a style I don’t seek out too much.
