Bottle from Rewe Bamberg. Clear chestnut colour lasting cream head. Caramel aroma. It’s a sweetish caramel lager that is a little typical to Franconia. You ask for a lager here and you can get a malty caramel lager. Well this is one of those. The goose in the river kind of made it

Pours dark ruby colored from the bottle and leaves a lingering creamy crown. The generally weak aroma is somewhat bready, with caramel hints; it is pleasant enough but fails to draw you in. A caramel malt overtone dominates the taste, accompanied by a sour hops bitterness that keeps the overall experience from being too sweet. Beyond the addition of a light smokey touch the overall taste does not develop further. Overall this is a fairly heavy bodied beer, and oily on the palate. Good, but not something I’d keep a crate of in the beer cellar.

Bottle @ Haket. Pours clear deep amber with a frothy pale beige head that leaves some sparse sporty trace in the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and slightly floral with sourdough bread, caramel, soured milk, hay, minerals and lemon zest. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, malty and slightly floral. Mouthfeel is soft, round and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and tiny bitter with dark bread, toasted oatmeal, caramel, hay, minerals and lemon peal. Simple and to the point but a bit lacking in the hop profile. --- Beer merged from original tick of Spezial on 12 Jan 2016 at 21:20 - Score: 7. Original review text: Bit too sweet and lacking in the floral hops. Still quite enjoyable though.

Bottle shared on the train from Nuremberg to Freising during day 3 of the Bamberg Jolly of January 2015. Pours clear, rich gold with a foamy white head. Basic sugary bread character, with faint leafy bitterness. Light in body with average carbonation. Sweet finish with toasted bread and caramel. OK.
