Old Foghorn is brewed based on historic English barleywine methods. It is highly hopped, fermented with a true top-fermenting ale yeast, carbonated by a natural process called "bunging" to produce champagne-like bubbles, and dry-hopped with additional Cascade hops while it ages in our cellars. Made only from “first wort,” the rich first runnings of an all-malt mash, three mashes are required to produce just one barleywine brew. Introduced in 1975, Old Foghorn Ale was the first modern American barleywine sparking renewed interest domestically and in Britain.

Bottle Fairly enough representing the style. Nothing extraordinary though. Within this extraordinary style. Boozy. Sweetish. It works well

I've had this many times before, just not recently, it seems. Bottled 02/10/2023. Pours a clear deep copper colour and a small dense light beige head with long retention.Aroma's of caramel malt, a bit rye bread, light red fruit. Retronasal there's a bit more fruit, some bitterness, caramel and bready malts. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter. Alcohol is warming. Medium bodied. Long finish with increasing bitterness. An American classic. RIP.

bottle. medium brown pour with a beige head that has good retention. The aroma features brown sugar, toffee, and wet soil. The taste moderately bitter with c hops ( I guess), also in the flavor I get dark fruits, raisins and dates, and earthy-bitter hops. The palate is a bit lighter than I prefer, but still quite accommodating. Overall: Decent, paired well with some extra toasty cheez-it.

Feels a little aged and oxidized. Otherwise it’s like a light barleywine that you’d find nowadays, but defines the style in terms of the fig flavour. Beer temple ams
