Sampled @CRAFT Frankfurt 2018. A very dark brown beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of mild roasted dark malt, nuts, some red fruits. Taste of mild roasted malt, nuts, chocolate, nice.

Bottle from Craftbeer-shop.com. Almost black with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and roasted moderate bitter finish. 310118

Bottle: Very deep chestnut-amber coloured, presumably clear, small and rather quickly vanishing off-white foamy layer, distincgive, dryish bitter-sweet nose of toasted malt and coffee, some caramelly spots underneath, herbal hops in the background; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, pretty smooth; lingering fruity-caramelly finish with coffee and bitter and earthy hops in the aftertaste. 16 oz pour into a plastic becker at the Saw Dust Festival in Laguna Niguel, California on 10th Dec 2017. Dark coffee look, tanned topping. Loads of coffee esters in the nose, some chocolate notes too. The taste is all about the malts (just like the aroma), roasted, toasted, robust and full bodied, an easy drinking Porter, pity about the plastic container I had to drink it out of.

Bottle. Murky deep brown colour. Good head of beige. Aroma: roast & coffee, some earth, minor molasses & dried fruit. Light to medium body. Medium dry taste. Malty. Roast, coffee. A touch of treacle. Dry ending. Light bitterness. Very drinkable stuff.

Bottle. Darkish brown with a beige head. Aroma of iced coffee made with brown sugar but not much milk. Nice coffee with some bread and spices behind. 7+ Medium bodied - just substantial enough really, lowish carbonation. Pleasantly creamy texture. Quite sweet with coffee, mild roast, caramel. Dries out a bit at the end, but it’s still a bit too sweet for me. After a while the roasted flavours come through a bit more, which is welcome.

Bottle from JSG Wine Merchants, Chesterton, Cambridge. Purplish brown, translucent. Flat. The aroma is overwhelmingly of coffee, although there are some pleasant notes of pumpernickel with caraway in here as well. Sweet taste with roasted malt and, again lots and lots of coffee. Not that I’m complaining - it’s nicely balanced - but it may not be the most nuanced beer you’re likely to have. Some welcome balancing sourness around the edges of the finish, and there’s plenty of carbonation in the body so not as flat as it looks. Very well put together.

Pours virtually black from the bottle and leaves a creamy, tan head. Aroma is used coffee grounds. Taste is mildly bitter with both coffee and dark chocolate notes. The overall combination left an odd peppery note in the mouth - as though I was eating a raw bell pepper on the side. Medium bodied. Was served to me a bit colder than I would like and thus a rerate candidate. Rerated 05/17. Tasted plenty of coffee, less bell pepper. Overall score and impression unchanged.
