Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours an opaque black with next to no head. Sweet, pruney nose, plenty of dried, dark fruit with a spicy, smoky edge. Rich, fat, sweet filling body, totally flat. Sweet pruney flavors, brown sugar and molasses. Indeed a very complex beer with the smokiness working mostly as a spice. Lovely. 110721

(500ml waxed bottle from SB) Pours black with basically no head. Notes of burnt, nutty toasty malts with quite prominent bitterness, chocolate and cocoa are quite dominant, caremlized sugar sweetness, ample umami soy and soft smoke, definite fruity tones that are almost acidic, leathery wood, kind of dusty and maybe a hint metallic, with anise and smoke joining cocoa and burnt grain in the finish that has a definite bite of roast acidity. Medium bodied, slick, lightly carbonated. A slightly odd beer, though honestly less odd than I expected and fun to try, even though acidic elements in dark beers are hit and miss for me.

375ml at Phill's place shared with Alex. Vintage 2019. Appearance: brown with a weak beige head. Aroma: smoke and plums, some roasted malts. Taste: along the same lines, sweet, fruity, smoky, a bit thin. Overall: good if you like the base flavors.

Bottle at a tasting, thanks to Wendigo. Full body, low carbonation. Strong cloying sweetness. Lots of chocolate, cocoa, moderate smokiness, light caramel. Moderate roasty bitterness balances the strong sweetness in the finish to make for at least a slightly drinkable beer. Feels out of balance, too sweet, too dark. Light character of dark fruits. Very good, quite complex, though really needs a bit more balance.
