Pours pitch black. nice lacing 1 finger creamy espresso coloured head. The nose has a lot more oak character than I expected. coconut and creamy buttermilk. Obviously coffee is here but it’s a day old coffee nose and not fresh. This is the most coffee forward stout I’ve ever had. You get a huge punch of acidic notes, pine oil and half & half creaminess. No sweetness and that’s a good thing. There’s this rawness that reminds me of chewing on a chocolate covered espresso bean. sort of the flavor you get after the good stuff is gone and you’re left with just raw acidic oily bean residue. it’s not a bad thing, but you have to really love coffee to want to put yourself through that. The light hearted will probably want to take water breaks in between sips. Coffee up, dudes.

22 oz. bottle with pearl Lavender wax. Gold paint pen of 1/ 2013 on the front label. Oily tan head that laces the snifter with a oily residue after a swirl of the black liquid. Looks nice and smells better. Aroma is layers of roasted coffee and malts with hints of bourbon. The coffee is over the top in the aroma. The flavor of coffee is toned down a bit with chocolate upfront, huge bourbon notes throughout the middle and a burnt coffee bean flavor on the back end. Texture is extremely oily with a nice level of carbonation. The 10% pure coffee they added to this stout stands out for sure. I love coffee and this works well. Anyone reviewing this beer knows the price of this bomber, I say you can find other coffee stouts that are just as good for less money. Money aside, this is a great product.

2013 bottle. Pours with a black hued body and a medium sized deep brown, retentive head. Aromas are of iodine, fudge, tobacco and earthy/mineral coffee. Mild bourbon, flint, molasses, honey, tar. Medium roast, vanillin. Flavors are roasty, coffee, sweet molasses, earthy and mineral, honey, chocolate (mild and dark). Light acidity (from the coffee one assumes). Bourbon character is muted. Fuller, almost velvety body, medium carbonation.

Waxed 22oz bomber share courtesy of BOLTZ7555, thanks Jason! It pours with a mahogany colored body that has copper hues and supports a tiny dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up big coffee notes, dark roasted coffee grounds and some sweet malts mixed with dark roasted malts. The taste is smooth with sweet malts, oily malt sweetened firm coffee notes and then this flows into dark chocolate and a mild degree of booziness. Yummers.

Sample from 2012 vintage at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/26/2013: Pours brownish-black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. The aroma is roasted coffee, bourbon and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, black coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is somewhat boozy with a lingering roast coffee aftertaste. Enjoyable beer all around.

On tap at FiftyFifty, my lucky day! Aroma has a light balanced coffee note. This is definitely not a beer where coffee overwhelms. The coffee is noticeable but there is also a nice roast and chocolate character still present. Some light vanilla and dark fruit esters. Not much bourbon character. Pours a deep black with a this hick mocha head that recedes fairly quickly. For how quick the head recedes there is a bit of lacing and some mid sized legs. Flavor has light roast and moderate chocolate flavors. The coffee note is present in equal quantity to the chocolate. Some plum and vanilla as secondary notes. Light bourbon and oak character as the beer warms. Some alcohol flavor in the finish and a touch of astringency. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and creamy, but definitely not as thick as others would like it to be. Medium low carbonation and light astringency. Medium high alcohol warmth. I usually find coffee stout to be overwhelmingly coffee and a bit overdone so I found this really nice. I know others would prefer more coffee character to their coffee stouts. The mouthfeel may be a bit thin, but I don't think it's tithe point of being a bad thing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
