2009 Bottle (375/450) - thanks beerbill. Pours a near black color with a creamy brown head. Aroma is a bit boozey, but rich in espresso and heavy roast. This is where it gets tricky... Heavy roast, espresso, dark chocolate, it’s just so rich and silky. Nothing to pick apart, nothing exotic to point out. I enjoyed this thoroughly.

courtesy of tpd975 bottle#247 pours black with thin mocha head. Aroma and taste, lots of roasted malts, light coffee, hints of chocolate that adds a subtle bitter sweetness and a grainy palate. Lingering coffee/chocolate finish, thick mouthfeel with some dark fruits. Boozy and very tasty.

To celebrate my rating number 11,900, I enter this top-50 beer, thanks to MaxxDaddy and jessbnjess for bringing it to Denmark and sharing. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt and chocolate as well as medium notes of sweet malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt as well as medium notes of sweet malt and chocolate, leading to a dry and very roasted finish where notes of dark bitter chocolate lingers.

Bottled, thanks Marsblursi! Realy black, dense beige creamy head. Yeasty chocolatey aroma. Medium sweet with chocolate sauce covering licorice. Salty and near full bodied with rounded grainy mouthfeel. Finishes with concentrated licorice and lingering sweetness.

Bottle from goldtwins (thanks!) for rating 900. This has sat around aging for a while (it’s the 2008 batch, though) and I’ve patiently waited for the right occasion, so here goes. Pours thick and black with a slowly forming large head. Aromas are an intriguing mix of peat, chocolate, wet leaves, floral scents, leather and dark fruit. Flavor is dynamite. A lovely mix of the above but with a much heavier chocolate presence than the nose indicated. THis is darn good stuff. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and has a bit of a bitter chocolate aftertaste. Kinda makes me with I lived just up the road from the Publick House.

Bottle 75cl. [ Courtesy of cgarvieuk ]. Clear dark black color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, licorice, tobaco. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (260708)

Bottle shared with a few Guys in Shefield ... Deep black ... Lovely molasis roast chocolate malt nose ... smooth soft roast toffee ... lots of chocolate ... some alcohol ... As it wasnt finished took what was lef home (36h) it was still in not bad state if a little bit more meaty. bottle at demolen 2011 ... deep black ... deep roast malt nos e... darl roast malts... soft toffeee ... big chocolate ... deep chocolate malts.... nice and oddly 4.1 again

Big thanks to Ty5592 for hooking me up with my 2000th rating, hand-bottled in May 2008. Deep, opaque brown-black body, medium cream head leaving nice lacing. Plummy nose with rich depth, including molasses, licorice, milk chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts, with bitter hops notes adding complexity. Reminiscent of Bell’s Expedition Stout. Soft mouthfeel, more bitter than sweet, with plum/dark fruits, bitter roast and hops, and chocolate. Creamy and chewy, never becoming too heavy or syrupy. Bitter roasty finish. Perhaps not as flavor-dense as I expected after enjoying the aroma, with a hollowness in the initial sip that quickly gives way to the dominant dark fruits and roast. This is a fine beer. Here’s to 5 1/2 years on Ratebeer, and many more to come. Thanks, Ty!

750 ml bottle generously shared by tjthresh. Pour is all black with a billowing khaki-tan head. Very pretty. Aroma of soft sweet chocolate, tail end of the nose reveals roasted malt. Some bright pine hoppiness makes an appearance as well. Taste is the big bitterness-pine initially, giving way almost immediately to the big roastiness. Quite a bit of carbonation in the flavor, which was a bit distracting for an IS. The finish reveals a fair amount of heat. Really well done, with the flavors all nicely integrated. This one will be a beauty with some age on it. Thanks for sharing this one Tom.
