We use a very simple malt base for this beer to showcase the characteristics of the single variety of hop. Columbus is one of the classic high alpha dual purpose hops from the USA and its flavour profile is unmistakably American – resinous, herbal and earthy with gentle citrus notes and a clean, long lasting bitterness with a delicious aroma. We add Columbus to the copper at the start of the boil then again right at the end, three times during the run-off and then more to dry-hop during conditioning, each addition bringing a different quality of the hops to the glass.

bottle at home ... Golden amber ,, thin white lacing ,, soft dry floral fruit nose .. grainy hay fruit .. light dry florsal

Bottle from Cornelius. Clear golden body with a medium white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of earth and dried leaves. Flavour of grain and dried apricot. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Weak fizz. A bit dull and one dimensional.

Sample from the brewer enjoyed at Cotteridge Wines tasting room; clear yellow pour with a bubbly white head, aroma has sweet malts and citrus, taste has sweet caramel, hints citrus.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - amber with a thin head. Nose - orange and caramel. Taste - dried orange and cake. Earthy and spicy. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - the taste was better than the nose which was a little ordinary.
