Brainless Belgian-Style Golden Ale is has a rich and complex malt flavor balanced with a little bit of spicy noble hops and strong influences of fermentation esters from the Belgian yeast used. Various Belgian like Rock Candies, hops and grains are employed to express variations within the style. Deceivingly drinkable, some liken theses ales to the Devil sneaking up on you, so consume responsibly.

Bottle: Poured a hazy bright golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some peppery yeast notes is interesting. Taste is a mix between somewhat overly sweet malt with notes of peppery yeast. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but just a bit too sweet for the style and a bit more complexity in the ester would have been a good improvement.

Bottle shared with Jcwattsrugger. Release #19. Pours gold. White head. Nose/taste of apple, yeast, peppercorn, lemon peel and pear. Peppercorn more prominent in taste. Medium body. Semi-sweet.

22 ounce bottle from Innsbrook Exxon in Glen Allen, VA, opened 5/18/11. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin creamy white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, butterscotch, caramel, earthy hops and a bit of citrus. The taste is sweet bready malts, caramel, apple, faint citrus sugary finish. Medium bodied. Decent, but a bit too sweet.

on tap at 1702 pours deep gold with a medium white head. Aroma is floral with lots of sweet honey and candied sugar. Flavor is very malt forward and again sweet candied sugar and honey that masks the alcohol well.

Bomber courtesy of douglas88. Pours clear gold with thin white head. The aroma is thick apricot, apple and some pear fruitiness to go along with a lesser amount of grainy maltiness. The taste is similar with robustly sweet and thick mixture of apples, pears and apricot esteriness mixing with some grainy malts.

Release 11 8.8 ABV: Funky banana and apple nose, very funky. Clear golden, medium head, good retention. Fullish body. Apple is dominant with a subtle undercurrent of not quite ripe banana. Decent beer, but doesn’t stand out in a crowd.

22oz Bottle Thanks to Sam first release. Pours out golden topped with a small bubble head. Aroma was of lemon zest, spice, some belg yeast, and a little sweetness. Taste was much as the aroma with some honey sweetness on the end.

The Big Hunt, DC tap ($8): Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is of candy, fruit, and sugar. The beer itself is definitely too sweet for my tastes, although not really cloying like Creme Brule Imperial Stout. You have plenty of fruit flavors in there, along with a positive yeast strain. Not really much in the way of hops. However, it is really easy to drink and the alcohol is covered up pretty admirably. Not the best of the style, but an OK attempt..

Tap at Churchkey, listed as 8.6%. Bright golden color, medium fluffy white head. Aroma of black pepper and malt. Taste is bitter citrus. Decent.

Bottle - thanks Eric. Pours a dusty golden color with a thin, short lived white head. Nose is pungent with yeast and grassey hops. Mellow flavor is grassey, floral, faint spices, and more yeast. Just lightly fruity, but the spiciness and floral tone of the hops really take over. Nice varietal.
