American Saison Ale (Smokestack Series)

When our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in fermenter number seven. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

With its balance, carbonation, and complex flavor profile, Tank 7 is one of the ultimate food-pairing beers in existence. But don't just take our word for it, esteemed chefs from around the country agree. We've sat down with a bunch of them and asked them seven questions over a Tank 7.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 25B - Super). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L42018 (BBF 01.2020). AROMA: medium to medium-high high lemony and orange notes, followed by background pepper and slightly sweet neutral malt. APPEARANCE: gold color and cristal clear. medium-large white creamy head, with good retention. lace formation. TASTE: similar to the aroma with initial medium fruity notes (orange-like), followed by medium to medium-low spices (clove-like and pepper). neutral malt background with a medium intensity and slightly sweet. medium-high bitterness with a dry bitterness. PALATE: medium body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a very nice american saison, checking all the boxes.

On tap @Le Coin du Diable in Brussels. Cloudy orange skin color with a tick off-white foam. Nose: orange zest, citrus, brett, cereals. Mouth: medium carbonation going soft, much orange and a hint of Saison mouthfeel, it ends round and a bit candy orange. Very nice!

Bottle, In de Kroeën Mechelen. Orange color. Lemon, grapefruit and floral notes in the aroma and flavor. Tart, some funk, slight; alcoholic, but also lots of flavor and aroma. Very good!

Beautiful. Some may say I paired it with too much cheese, but those people are no friends of mine.

Tastes a lot like Saison dupont. Basically a prototype for the style. Super dry, a bit funky, just a bit too bitter for me, maybe somewhat oxidized. online belgian beer factory
