American Saison Ale (Smokestack Series)

When our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in fermenter number seven. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

With its balance, carbonation, and complex flavor profile, Tank 7 is one of the ultimate food-pairing beers in existence. But don't just take our word for it, esteemed chefs from around the country agree. We've sat down with a bunch of them and asked them seven questions over a Tank 7.

Beautiful warm and sunny afternoon in Brugge (15th May 2018). 33cl bottle drank in the rear garden area of the Bier Paleis. Hazy golden pour, off-white topping that tried to hang around. More malts than hops in the nose and taste, semi-sweet with a light fruitiness throughout. Easy drinking beer, did expect a little more yeastiness and maybe a farmyard ester or two, still enjoyed it though.

0.33l bottle. Slightly murky golden body with an enormous white head and aggressive carbonation. It has a malty base with notes of hay and honey followed by some peach and grapefruit-like fruityness and grassy, earthy hops (quite a lot of them actually) spiced with a bit of white pepper and lemon zest. Great one!
