Propitiation was born from one of the six components of the Toronado 25th Anniversary beer. It was aged in used wine barrels for 12 months before being removed and carbonated. The beer is dry and light in body but full of rich chocolate and coffee notes with a mild sour/tart finish.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle with a July 25, 2022 bottle dated. Aroma is malty with nice chocolate and toasted bread notes. Lighter notes of roast and biscuit. Medium light red wine fruitiness and hints of oak. Light alcohol notes. Pours black with a large, thick, creamy, tan head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers. Medium light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with a medium light acidity. Moderately strong chocolate and toasted bread malt notes with hints of roast, biscuit and crackers. Light bitterness and light alcohol notes. Medium light red wine fruitiness and hints of oak. Cherry, cassis and berry notes with hints of raisin. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer, although I'm not sure I have had other intentionally sour porters to compare this one against. Nice fruity red wine notes and solid malt character. Acidic, but not sharp.

dark brown color . Sour chocolate, oak and tons of red wine. Very light body and tart. It’s ok but a bit meh. Sour porters aren’t my favorite

375mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / bear-black with a medium beige head. Aroma reveals lots of woody vinous notes, oak, and faint toasted malt. Flavour is very woody and vinous, with lots of red wine barrels, a semi-spicy—almost cracked—black pepper character, and soft oak. Nicely integrated, with the red wine finishing the palate. Really well-made.

375 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brn/blk with a creamish tan head. Aroma of red grapes and wood with a light sour note. Med body at least. Flavor is very red grape, with lightly/slightly musty wood and slightly burnt malt. Lots of vinosity. Very light sour. A bit astringent. Really, really, tasty.

On tap at Russian River Brewing in Santa Rosa, CA-USA. Dark brown pour almost black with caramel highlights, decent ivory head. Nose: red wine, wood, completely vinous (the barrel has taken over the Porter aroma). Mouth: again vinous, roast is far away, the beer is tasty tough. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
