Propitiation was born from one of the six components of the Toronado 25th Anniversary beer. It was aged in used wine barrels for 12 months before being removed and carbonated. The beer is dry and light in body but full of rich chocolate and coffee notes with a mild sour/tart finish.

Keg at Toronado, SF, 02/02/16. Black, topped with a tan swirl. Nose is tangy dark fruits, plum, pissy red grapes, wine barrel notes, nutty, dates. Taste comprises mellow yeast, tarte dark fruits, funky, more sharp plum notes, grape must, damp wood. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, puckering close with restrained acidity. Solid dark sour.

On tap at Toronado. Pours a dark amber with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is oak, caramel, dark fruit. Medium, dark fruit, caramel, oak, light dryness, very good.

Draft - Sweet caramel and toffee with sourness. Deep brown with a light beige head. Light smokey notes and nice soured notes. Rich tart savoury flaovors.

Draft at Toronado SF. Pours deep brown with a creamy tan head. Tangy, leathery berries in the aroma, with undertones of toffee and plum. Light sweet flavor with mellow acetic burn, more leather, plum, berries. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Dry and woody on the finish, some earthy bitterness, toast, old leathery fruits. Fine.

Draught at Toronado SF. Opaque black liquid with small light tan head. Aroma of lemon, light wood, licorice, light ash and white grapes. Taste is light sweet and light sour with notes of lemon, light apple skin, wood and grapes. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Nice, drinkable. Balanced.

Draft @ GABF 2013. Pours a dark brown black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty woody sour tart aroma with weak hints of chocolate. Roasted malty sour tart woody chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty woody sour tart chocolate finish.

Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours a watery, mahogany amber with some clumpy, beige head. Musty nose, berry, rhubarb, vinegar, malt, cracker. Flavors of worm wood, malt, vinegar, rhubarb, wood pulp. Acetic finish. Neat.

GABF 2013. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Pretty acidic, vinegar, sour cherry, berry, oaky, dark fruity aroma. Somewhat tannic, oaky, leather, sour cherry flavor. Kind of a cool beer.

Sample at GABF 2013. Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma of big tart blackberries and wood. Flavour is light sweet and moderate to heavy acidic. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
