April -13: etter orkesterhelg i haugesund, just what the doctor ordered. "Easy drinking at 12%". Føres umiddelbart på handlelista for kommende uke!

New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($4.50): Pours a brown color with a light brown head that lasts for a while. Aroma is sugary fruit and yeast. Taste is rather sweet. The sugar sticks around into the aftertaste as could well be assumed. It isn’t quite cloying, but it is close. A good BSA, but nothing all that memorable.

750 ml bottle into chalice, best before DL039/111(no idea). Pours very hazy extremely dark brown color with a 1 finger foamy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, apple, pear, prune, caramel, molasses, chocolate, toast, pepper, clove, earth, and yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with good strength, balance, and complexity. Taste of raisin, prune, caramel, toast, molasses, chocolate, toffee, clove, earth, pepper, and yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, caramel, molasses, toast, chocolate, toffee, earth, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Excellent balance and complexity of flavors with good depth; no cloying flavors after the finish at all. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong dark ale! Very nice depth and complexity; and quite smooth to sip on. No idea on the age of this bottle; but I would have to say it probably is fairly old and it definitely holds up well. This is a very enjoyable sipper.

On tap at Belgian Beer Weekend, Brussels. Has a deep dark brown colour with a frothy medium beige head. Wonderful aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and chocoalte truffles. The flavours are fantastic and with sweet chocolate, chocoalte truffles, dark chocolate, cocoa, leather and dried fruits in between. The mouthfeel is rich and smooth, and has a light bitterness. An amazing beer with a lovely chocolate touch, and really one of a kind.

Bottle 330ml @ home
Pours slightly hazy dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, dried fruits and yeast. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long warm and fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 33cl. A dense, off-white head of two-finger size sits on top of an almost clear, dark amber to brown body. Some lacings. The aroma has a faint spiced hint, with white sugar, dried fruits and alcohol. Caramel shows up in the flavor, along with a balancing bitterness, some alcohol and white sugar and dried fruits. Full-bodied, warming and nicely carbonated, finishing quite bitter. Not superb in any way, but a pleasant, tasteful beer well suited for a late night in the favorite chair. 120302

pures very dark ( much dfazrker than expected ! ) in what i would call red. but it seels brown either way. no real big smell.. foam is very vivid. the firts minute you could hear it very quitley fading, intil lets say halfway. for a couple of minutes now, the foam stays how it is ( still rather big though ! ) also the ’life’ in it fades, withoud the foam going away. so far, so nice ! tastes maybe a little to much carbonation, but still way better than the average ! sweet, but totaly not over the top! and than .. no aftertaste but than it DOES come ( unexpected ! ) that typical warm, nice glowing aftertaste that is the onley reason i still open a ’brown ’ beer... nice indeed. i’d drink it again ( sometimes ) but no new favo..

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra. Ruby brown with a tan head. ’brown cafe’ smell, a mix of decades of beer, tabacco and biljarts. A bit odd description I realise but that was the association I got when smelling this beer. Taste is peppery, hoppy, malty and full bodied. Great, great aftertaste with some lasting tingeling of the tongue. Great, often overlooked Belgian strong ale.
