Heavy ’massive ale’, originally a winter warmer but now available all year, so De Landtsheer removed the wintery elements from the label (making it harder to distinguish from its brethren on a shelf now). Deep yellow beige, creamy, sticky head and very dark burgundy colour, almost blackish. Powerfully perfumed aroma of plum brandy, chocolate liqueur, brown sugar, cinnamon, port wine, apple peel, honey, cake, banana, overripe peach, coffee powder. Intensely malty taste, caramelly and soft chocolatey, candi-like sweetness, not too cloying but sticking into the finish, which is otherwise characterized by coffee-like roasted bitterness and vinous, warming alcohol. Opulent, well-crafted, warming ale, complex, one of my favourites among easily available Belgian ’abts’ (which is what the style characterization here should be instead of ’Belgian strong ale’!). I’d serve it at a few degrees above the recommended 8° C, though.

Bottled 330ml. -from Magic Beer Room Zagreb. Brown coloured with a nice red glare, medium sized beige head, spices and fruits in the nose. Moderate sweet malty, dark fruits and alcohol with notes of licorice and dried fruits. Also some alcohol and spicy presence. Pleasant brew but nothing more than that.

33cl bottle from La Maison Belge, Puerto de la Cruz. Pours slighty hazy dark brown to amber, with a rather small, tan head. Malty aroma with dark fruits, sugar, caramel, alcohol and hints of spices. Sweet and malty with warming alcohol. Full body with carbonation more on the soft side. Too sweet, but certainly pleasant.

330 ml bottle. Clear brown body with a big, stable foamy tan head. Nice aroma of malt, dry fruit, spices and some warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet, rich malty, dry fruit, spices and warming alcohol. Feels hot, but in a nice way, not sticky and boozy. Fine body and good aftertaste. This is a nice and well-made Belgium ale for sipping or good cheese.

Bottle from Fish and Beer, CPH, shared with Niller - dark brown pour with a medium beige head. Aroma and taste of dark malts, caramel, light choc, brown sugar, nutty, yeasty, spices, dark dried and some ripe fruit. The 12% abv is very well hidden, nice mouthfeel, and comes round really well as it warms up. Very good this.

Rich and tasty beer. Yeasty and malty of course, with lots of dark fruit and herbs. Belgian craftmanship.
