As with all sour ales, the initial sip wakes up your dull senses. There is an elevated level of Acetic Acids working their magic in this beer. The first sip assaults the palate in an enamel stripping bottom of the pH chain sort of way. In Belgian brewing there are fantastic wild ales brewed with naturally occurring yeast. These beers develop over time and are ready on their own terms.
Duck Duck Gooze is our homage to these effervescent and wonderfully complex sparkling beers.A blend of young and old barrel aged beers, this has been one of our most sought after beers year after year since it’s original release in 2009. Alas, it is released in very small quantities only once every three years, so it’s extremely difficult to come by beyond the day we release it. It does, however, turn up on our Tasting Room’s Vintage List from time to time, so don’t despair.

Bottle courtesy of tarheels86 - thanks GT! Cloudy golden with very thin white head. Aroma of seawater and hay. Flavor begins with sweetish lemon and progresses to a salty, vinegar type of funk. Interesting and complex, but slightly thin. Good, but not outstanding.

C&C 750 mL bottle courtesy of bankhead. Thanks! Pours a pale hazy lemon yellow color with a medium creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Nice tart aroma with citrus, cherry and light funky notes. Taste is very tart with mild funk, cherries, green apple, citrus, caramel. Nicely carbonated, nicely balanced. Medium bodied.

courtesy of BA trader. pours golden hazy, thin fizzy white head. aroma mild tartness and notes of oak wood, mostly tart fruits and lactic with mellow grainy nose; wheat. flavor, just the right blend of sour/tart, leaving a mild acidic/funky character and tingly spicy oak on the palate. Some fruit elements of white grape, citrus fruits; mostly grapefruit/blood orange sourness. Not sure what the funk was, leaning on champagne yeast, but it appeared more of lactobacillus acidity giving a nice dry finish. Great finish and med-high carbonation.

Pourd dark modestly opaque grapefruit juice with off white head. The aroma is lemon, acidity and little else. The taste is sharp with acidity and mild sourness. I really don’t sense anything else going on in here and therefore lacks much interest or depth.

Bottle at Chriso’s Kook Tasting 09. Typical American sour aroma, sour with lemon, but no real depth. Just too uncultured. Too much like lemon juice.

@Moosetoberfest Gathering Thanks Boamr–750ml bottle-pours a white ring for a head and hazy gold color. Aroma is sour fruit, sweet light malt, vinegar. Taste is sour fruit, sweet light malt, vinegar. Lots of effervescence. Not my style, but good. ---140207 rerate

2009 GABF Tasters and from a bottle late that week. Pours out a hazy straw topped with a small head. Aroma was citrus orange and lemon. Along with plenty funk and some light yeast. Taste was more of the citrus lemon and orange. Not the normal hop citrus. A good sour fruit pucker. I can’t wait to try this one again.

(Draught at BA’s BBF) Poured yellow and cloudy with small white head. Aroma was very pleasing and contained sourness, spices and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Tasted of grapefruit, sourness, citricness, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was mainly sour. Very impressive and really good sour ale.

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Nice sour aroma with light lactic notes and green apple. Acetic sour flavor with oak and green apples. Medium bodied. Lingering acetic, sour, and oak. Very nice.
