As with all sour ales, the initial sip wakes up your dull senses. There is an elevated level of Acetic Acids working their magic in this beer. The first sip assaults the palate in an enamel stripping bottom of the pH chain sort of way. In Belgian brewing there are fantastic wild ales brewed with naturally occurring yeast. These beers develop over time and are ready on their own terms.

Duck Duck Gooze is our homage to these effervescent and wonderfully complex sparkling beers.A blend of young and old barrel aged beers, this has been one of our most sought after beers year after year since it’s original release in 2009. Alas, it is released in very small quantities only once every three years, so it’s extremely difficult to come by beyond the day we release it. It does, however, turn up on our Tasting Room’s Vintage List from time to time, so don’t despair.

Corked bottle. Golden color. Oak, vanilla, apple, honey and lemon in the aroma. Sour, oaky flavor with vinegar, honey, lemon and vanilla. Great complexity, but also a few raw edges. A great beer, comparable to the better geuzes.

A hazed blonde Gueuze with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with loads of ground cherries, lactic acid, Epsom salts, light Brett, very nice and complex. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with loads tart cherry, light Brett, light lactic notes, very nice. Bottle at DLD 2019.

Bottle shared at Alex's Birthday. Pours a clearish orange gold with a full 2 fingers of foam that dissipates. Musty, funky hay, horseblanket and gooseberry notes. Oak with some mild vinegar notes. More oak on the palate with lots of funk, some lemon and more gooseberry. Some lactic tang toward the finish, acidic but not overly so with more of the oak, citrus mustiness on the finish.

Bottle, by way of a trade. Shared round at Dan’s. Hazed gold. Ring of white. Nose has soft funk. Vinous oak. Touch of sweaty cheese. Some red wine dregs. Taste is tart, dry and a little vinous. Medium body. Fine, sharp carbonation. Tart and funky finish. Surprisingly subtle, and all the better for it.
