Half pint at Wainwright Pub. Pours near black with a gray head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma is full of dry roasted malts with dark grains and a hint of smoke supporting. Flavor combines earthy dark grains and dry roasted malts with a hint of smoke underlying.

Bottle from Pennington Hotel in Ravenglass. Pours black with a thin off white head. Aroma is smoke, chocolate, coffee and roast malt with a little sourness. Taste is smoky roast malts that soften and a little chocolate and molasses sweetness on the end. Nice carbonation and a overall not too bad at all.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - opaque black but with just a hint of a red chink. Nice fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate digestive biscuits. Taste - toffee, dark chocolate and biscuits. Some honeycomb too. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture and a long dry crunchy finish. Overall - lovely stout at a session strength.
