Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

*Old rating. Great intense dark brew. Not too sticky but great deep. Round, fresh, roasted. Chocolate, roasted oats, moderate bitter. Long dark roasted espresso-chocolate aftertaste on a fresh and drinkable body. Great!

Bottle, from Wittich web shop. Dark roasty aroma, not particularly defined, but nice. Beautiful dark brown color. Some oats on the tongue, but not so much actually. Good roast and quite a bit of content considering the ABV. Still quite light and easy. Some BA notes?

Rated rom old notes. Full bodied and silky sweet. Aroma is malty with fruity undertones, although the fruit is less evident in the taste. Robust in body and rich in taste. Sweet, but not excessively so; well balanced and a personal favorite. No doubt full of healthy fiber. Best enjoyed warm - about 15c or low 60f

Pours a dark brown from a bottle with a thin khaki head, little lacing. Aroma of molasses/cola, flavor similar. Not thin like other sweet stouts, which is usually my complaint of them. Well-balanced, not too bitter or too sweet--well-balanced enough so that you don’t even notice. Good beer.
