Ale with currants added and aged in oak barrels.

When we made the Toronado’s 20th Anniversary Ale, we had no idea that it would turn out to be one of our favorite barrel aged beers we would ever make. With that said, we have always wanted to make a dark barrel aged beer using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon barrels but, we never were inspired. That is, until we blended five different beers to make the Toronado beer, the tobacco character from the the dark malts blended nicely with the furit character that developed in blending. So, with Concescration we set out to make a barrel beer using all Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. No, we are not saying that this is a replica of the T-rooms anniversary beer, after all, a beer like that can never be duplicated, and, there was no fruit added to that beer as there is with this one. All we are saying is that it gave us great inspiration to brew Consecration.

From a 375 ml bottle shared at home. Batch 007. Pours a clear deep amber with a feint off white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma tart cherries. Some raisin and grape notes balancing the tart apple and cherry. Crisp tart finish.

375 ml bottle received in trade. Thank you Adnielsen! Pours clear reddish golden with a small pinkish white head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sour, tart and fruity with black currants, red currants, acetic acid, moist wood, dark grapes, tannins, lemon juice, leather, lemon zest, rustic red wine, perfume-like tobacco, alcohol, vanilla, ripe gooseberries, unripe strawberries and very subtle hints of glue. Taste is sour, tart and fruity with crackers, red currants, rustic red wine, moist wood, hay, tart slightly unripe raspberries, black currants, moist soil, leather, tobacco, alcohol, blackberries, raspberries, frozen strawberries, bread, tannins and hints of black currant jam. Mouthfeel is dry, fruity tart, tiny mouth puckering and medium bodied. Finish is sour, tart and fruity with red currants, leather, bread, lemon juice, tobacco, lemon zest, alcohol, unripe blackberries and strawberries and hints of black currant jelly. Very nice fruity sour...

Bottle at home (from Beermongers, Portland OR) - 19/12/12. Pours a reddish brown with a large tan head initially but this dissipates quickly to nothing. Visible carbonation evident. Nose carries wood, wine notes, funk, some mustyness, burnt sugars, tarte berry fruit, touch of smoke, earthy. Taste comprises soured berry fruits, woody backbone, grapes, wine, booze, malt, earthy, tarte and bitter. Fuller end of medium bodued with fine carbonation leading to a dry finish with a touch of alcohol. Good stuff as always from RR.

Light brown colour, no head. Flavour picks up the fruitiness of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The sourness on this one is bearable, helped by a thicker, heavier body and the high level of alcohol.

Bootle - Batch 8 - Sweet ripe fruits, currants very obvious. Muddy brown, no head. Pleasant sourness, wine like with a mild bitterness and long finish. I would love to age and see what happens.

Bottle batch 008 thanks to timfoolery: Poured a clear brown red with a thin whisper off white head. Aroma is very wine like with fruits, currant, and leafy malt. Taste is sour up front that opens the tongue up to that fruit however it subsides fast to sweet malts. I really am against sour/wild ales until a gem like this comes around.

Small coarse head quickly disappears. Clear reddish brown body. Vinous vinegary wooden aroma with cherry wax notes. Dry-acidic earthy peppery redcurrant taste with chemical notes. Mid-to-thin body. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry-acidic earthy funky cherry aftertaste with metallic wooden notes. A challenging, sippable beer. Not bad, but not great, either. (0.375l bottle from City Beer, San Francisco.)

Tap. Wow does this beer bring it home. Pour hazy deep amber with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is wonderfully tart red wine, cherry, wood, caramel. Flavor is balanced sweet and tart with obvious wine and wood notes mixing with cherry and caramel, leading to a warming alcoholic finish.
