Ale with currants added and aged in oak barrels.

When we made the Toronado’s 20th Anniversary Ale, we had no idea that it would turn out to be one of our favorite barrel aged beers we would ever make. With that said, we have always wanted to make a dark barrel aged beer using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon barrels but, we never were inspired. That is, until we blended five different beers to make the Toronado beer, the tobacco character from the the dark malts blended nicely with the furit character that developed in blending. So, with Concescration we set out to make a barrel beer using all Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. No, we are not saying that this is a replica of the T-rooms anniversary beer, after all, a beer like that can never be duplicated, and, there was no fruit added to that beer as there is with this one. All we are saying is that it gave us great inspiration to brew Consecration.

12.68 oz corked and caged bottle. Batch 7. Pours almost clear ruby red with little particles floating around under a small white cream-colored head. Aroma is vinegary, barnyard, vinous, oaky. Taste is mouth-puckering sour with a dry finish; nice and acidic. Alcohol is noticeable, but it doesn’t taste 10%. Yet another awesome sour from RR.

375 ml corked and caged bottle. Mahogany red color topped by a brief white head that disappates very quickly. Aroma of wood and bourbon tinged with vanilla bean. Wow! the sour notes overwhelm the senses. lots of flavors here. Barnyard, cheese, wine, citrus, plums and cedar. This is truly unique and not for the uninitated.

Batch one bottle thanks to Ari. Pours a deep purple amber with a near white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a strong note of currant with a good amount of acid with a underlying note of oak. Flavor is quite acidic up front with a good amount of currents and just a hint of oak.

Big thx to Dave for bringing this one from the states // this was for a long time very high on my list // 375 ml bottle @ home // First things first. this is disturbingly close to Bush Presige // seriously I am not crazy it totally is but this one is better // looks like very, very dark wine, dark red / brown I suppose, carbonation is so insanely violent that head disappears and actually almost comes back, goes away, comes back. goes away,,,, // very heavy on wine, cabernet sauvignon I suppose, very, very heavy wine, oak, pure berries, sour, tad vinegar, so full of wine but better than any wine I have ever had // taste is same, so wine heavy, pure vinous, loads of berries, currants, vinegar raspberries, reasonably harsh, vinegar soaked oak, lots of wine grapes, vinegar cherries, vinegar soaked oak, crazy acid finish, hurting the throat // fizzy carb. quickly gone. substatial body // it is clearly better than Bush Prestige but why is it so damn close? // & oh yeah batch 8

Bottle shared at tasting. Pours hazy brown with no head, far from the most attractive beer I’ve ever seen. The great stuff starts to come out in the aroma with tart dark fruits, raisins, oak and noticeable cabinet sauvignon. Nicely tart sour berry flavour with no swwetness. A fantastic beer, but possibly a little over rated.

Bottle, 75cl corked, at RBNAG-11. It pours almost clear, dark amber in color and with a minimal sized off-white head on top. The aroma has popcorn, but not in the typical dms way, as well as caramel notes, coffee and meat. Sourish, roasted flavor with very evident berries. Dry and tart on the palate, finishing with a lasting tart, berry-ish and vinegar-ish flavor. Certainly a nice brew, but I’d rather have a regular geuze over this anytime. 111015

Bottle shared at a sour tasting at Noam’s office. Thanks StFun for this bottle! Batch #001X2. Very deep brownish red color. Vinous aroma of berries, quite a lot of oaky funk and some pedio. Sour oaky flavor of berries, a hint of vinegar and a yogurt note. Medium to full-bodied. Really great stuff. 8/4/8/4/17=4.1
Bottle shared at a sour tasting at Noam’s office. Thanks StFun for this bottle! Batch #006. Clear reddish amber with a beige head. Sour aroma of malt, berries, a bit of vinegar, pedio. Sour flavor with berries, malt, light lactic hints, a citric hint, oak, and a more sour finish. Medium-bodied. I liked the older vintage a bit better, but this one’s very good too. 8/4/8/3/16=3.9

Tasting at Mes and Sims flat. Batch 2. Very dark brown beer, hazy. Dry palate. Sour and rich. Sour coca cola and currants. The dark fruit providing a reasonable counter balance to the lemony sourness.

Sampled from bottle. Poured a slightly cloudy brown color with an off-white head. Aroma was dark, dried fruits with a tart kick to it. Flavor is tart, slight puckering sour. Wine notes, grape crispness. Carbonated pretty well so a bit of a fuzzy note to it. Good.
