Bottled 650ml. -Courtesy of luttonm, shared with him and Marko. Pitch black coloured, medium sized brown head, roasty nose with notes of chocolate. Strong roasted malt, some coffee and dark chocolate with significant licorice presence. Notes of wood in rather bitter finish. 2010 vintage.

Gigantic thanks to Matt (luttonm) for bringing this! A 2010 bottle I think. POured a black body with a brown head. As expected, pretty much opaque. Slightly salty dark malts and licorice in the aroma. Quite nice, but the taste... as it got warmer it evolved so brilliantly. Started off with fresh coffee, dry, lovely malty notes, light chicory and, hmm... light soy sauce (I don’t like that in beer)... but then raisins showed up, it was still dry. Then cocoa later on, getting smoother, damn soft, lovelier as it went. Definitely a great IS. Just lovely.

Bottle shared at tasting. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is coffee in the forefront, with chocolate, vanilla, bourbon notes and light oak. Flavour comes out fairly heavy sweet with light bourbon vanilla, oak and molasses up front, with a dark chocolate light to medium bitterness at the back. The mouthfeel is thick and oily, very full bodied with no real carbonation. I’ve been excited to try this for some time, and now I am, it doesn’t disappoint.

65 cl bottle vintage 2011 at APEX, best after 4.8.2012 Aroma has lots of cocoa, some vanilla and alcohol. Flavour is sweetish with cocoa, dark chocolate and some alcohol. Very dry finish. Too sweet and a bit too strong on alcohol, aging might really do the trick here. 8+4+8+4+15=3.9 65 cl bottle vintage 2010 @ lusikka Aroma has strong cocoa tones, some coffee and soy sauce. Flavour has soy sauce, cocoa and salty licorice. Too salty at first, but this settles afterwards. Fresh one was too sweet, this one is too salty. To conclude this: just too much salty licorice for my taste. 8+5+7+4+15=3.8 35,5 cl bottle @ home Aroma has licorice and bourbon. Flavour has licorice, bourbon, woody barrel tones. Alcohol is present and it's slightly too sharp. Pleasant aftertaste with licorice and ash. Now we're talking! 8+5+8+4+15 = 4.0

Bottle at Aces and Ales, LV. 2011 vintage. Opaque, black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, dark chocolate, pumpernickel, licorice, wood/oak, coffee, biscuit and dark fruit. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of bourbon, chocolate, oak and licorice. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice, balanced and quite licorice forward.

2010 Vintage. Stored at Cellar temp since release. Poured into a Tulip glass at cellar temp (59 Degrees). Allowed to breathe for 5 minutes before reviewing.
A - Nice hiss while removing the cap. Poured a 2-Finger coffee & leather colored head. Head subsided to a quarter finger over 5 minutes and left behind a small film of bubbles. The beer was midnight black, semi-thick pour but not as oily as I expected. Decent head lacing, slight alcohol legs but nothing too intense. Expected for 11%
S - I can smell the beer from 2 feet away. Up close, I’m getting a big coffee with chocolate syrup scent. The licorice bombs out on the back of my nostrils leaving behind an intense milk chocolate sweetness. Hints of bourbon but nothing overpowering.
T - Wow. Okay, I don’t quite know where to start. First taste is the bourbon followed by sweet vanilla and peppery licorice. I get this dry roasted almost biting chocolate espresso bean taste that fades away leaving behind an oaky chocolate sweetness that fades to a bitter oakiness over the course of about 30 seconds.
M - The mouthfeel is slick and surprisingly thin for an Imperial Stout. On a very vigorous mouth swish, I only get about 30% carbonation mouth feel. Medium to heavy body and A super oaky sweet finish that reminds me a lot of cane syrup fresh from our farm.
O - This is a fantastic beer. The Imperial Stout category has seen a lot of changes in the last few years. Abyss holds its own against a lot of huge beers. Stoked to finally try this.
