The origin of our Russian Imperial Stout is situated in Zaandam. For this we go back to the year 1697. It is in this year that Russian Tsar Peter I in Zaandam lived and worked as a carpenter. To emphasize the Russian-Dutch relationship, we enriched the beer with 'Zaanse Cocoa'.

Pours black with a tiny head that quickly disappears leaving no lacing. Aroma and flavour are malt, liquorice, chocolate, minerals.

Clear but very dark brown colour with a ruby hue against the light, small foamy tan head, dissipates quickly but good lacing. Aroma roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, dark fruits, licorice. Taste soft sweetbitter, dark chocolate, coffee, hint of laurel. Medium to full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Finish smooth bittersweet, lingering roasty and chocolate aftertaste, alcohol well hidden, good.

330 mml bottle tasted on 13/08/2014. Almost deep black colour with a medium beige head. Aroma of cola, coffee and liquorice. On the mouth a lot of coffee, chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits and caramel. Aftertaste is nice. Carbonation and body are medium. ¿Imperial Stout? I don´t know...Next one please!

Bit like a double stout. Has a body of roasted malt, but lacks the aggresiveness of a IS. Sort of like an IS for starters.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit schöner beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, Kaffee, schokoladig. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, schokoladig, Kaffee.

Clear brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, booze, chocolate liquor. Sweet flavour, caramel, coffee, light metallic. Malty finish, caramel, liquorice, alcohol. Expected more from this brewery I?m afraid. (33cL bottle @ home)

Bottle, courtesy of Martinus, many thanks. Very dark brown color with medium tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malt, dark fruits. Taste, dark berries, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, roasted malt, medicinal notes. strong long coffee biter finish. Tasty.

Bottle at the Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a thick black with a large, dense tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, peat and dark chocolate. Initial sweet flavours of cocoa, dark fruits and red currents. Bitter finish of coffee, liquorice and some molasses.

zwart met matige kaki kraag aroma: hmmmm waar zijn al de lekkere aroma’s gebleven ? iets van vage tonen van zoetje , en moutje, maar nee,,, drama dit ! smaken: zwaar zoet, lichte koffie, lichte caramel, is die een RIS ???? niet voor mij dan, véél te zoet, te weinig body, totaal geen bitterte, koffie/chocolade, nee goedkope, "ik moet erbij horen dus maak ik ook maar een stout variant, maar het mag totaal geen geld kosten" variant van een goede RIS
