The origin of our Russian Imperial Stout is situated in Zaandam. For this we go back to the year 1697. It is in this year that Russian Tsar Peter I in Zaandam lived and worked as a carpenter. To emphasize the Russian-Dutch relationship, we enriched the beer with 'Zaanse Cocoa'.

Bottle at gbbf 2013. Aroma is Roasty chalky choc. Quite subdued. Opaque black with a persistent tan head. Flavour is berry hop yeast esters and solventy alcohol. Too much alcohol for me.

Bottle at the Haarlem Beer Festival 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a bubbly light tan head. The aroma is dry and earthy, leading to a medium bitter flavour with a zesty, liqourice, slightly watery palate.

Bottle from Speciaal Bier Winkel, Bodegraven, bb 11/04/15
Very dark brown color, some light still goes through the edges, with generous compact but fizzy head. Aroma of overbaked bread and roasted malts, mild. The body is weaker than expected, the flavor way drier; roasted malt is the dominant flavor, with some burnt wood; ordinary bitterness; dry and lean final, with light alcohol perception.
Decent beer, typically Belgian, nothing to do with Imperial Stouts.
