The origin of our Russian Imperial Stout is situated in Zaandam. For this we go back to the year 1697. It is in this year that Russian Tsar Peter I in Zaandam lived and worked as a carpenter. To emphasize the Russian-Dutch relationship, we enriched the beer with 'Zaanse Cocoa'.

12oz pour is a watery, opaque black with a creamy, lacing white head. Flavor is sweet, cherries, malt, molasses, brown sugar, pitted fruits, light smoke. Nose is sweet, fruity, malty, light booze. Full bodied, fruity finish.

Malziger, erstaunlich milder Antrunk. Durchwachsenes Bier! /9/10/8/8/9

Cloudy deep brown beer. Not really a stout! Smooth soft and sweet. Mild caramel and toffee with a licorice and aniseed note. Very well joined up tasty beer. That is not a stout!

(Bottle, Café Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 1 Aug 2010) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with chocolate, caramel and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark bread and raisins. Almost full body, smooth and rounded mouthfeel. Fairly sweet with a certain coffee bitterness in the finish. Well balanced and very nice.
