Showdown is an IPA reimagined. With a heaping addition of hardy rye, this copper-hued beauty delivers an unmistakable spicy rye character, while a burly dose of American hops evokes the piney aroma of untamed wilderness. Balanced, bold, and brave, Showdown claims the prize.

Whole orange and lemon zest nose. Clear copper, medium yellow head, good lacing. Overripe orange, savory, slightly briney, rye, grapefruit peel. Medium body, resinous, soft carbonation, alcohol slightly noticeable. Quite a robust example of the style, spicy and hearty, a bit of a meal. Too resinous for my taste, but nice texture otherwise.

Pours deep amber into a tulip. White soapy head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Stale pumpernickel aromas. Medium bodied with spicy rye and sweet caramel upfront turning to dark resin in the lasting finish.

Bomber from The Beer Mongers in Portland, OR. Pours rather copper with a slight beige head. Aroma of hops and rye spice. Low malt background. Med body or better. Flavor is floral, citrus, rye spice and some fairly sweet malt. It’s rather lush all in all. Finishes spicy, hoppy, malty. Very tasty ale.

Great poignant rye aroma and lots of bitterness. Good citrus and some light pine. Very bitter. Orange pour with good lacing and OK head. Tap at Max’s.
