Showdown is an IPA reimagined. With a heaping addition of hardy rye, this copper-hued beauty delivers an unmistakable spicy rye character, while a burly dose of American hops evokes the piney aroma of untamed wilderness. Balanced, bold, and brave, Showdown claims the prize.

Bomber @ home with LeninCat. Bottle date was nearly scratched off and I only noticed it to be June 2014 when I got home. Damn. Clear dark reddish orange appearance with a light brown head. The aroma has some mineral notes, cracker, dough, light spice, and fairly heavy floral notes. In the flavor, it’s more floral and herbal than piney. Somewhat chewy and doughy. Hops aren’t overly expressive but I guess that comes with the age of the bottle. I won’t be a repeat buyer.

Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 12/30/14

Aroma: The nose is big on spice and rye malt, some pine, caramel, and a bit of citrus
Appearance: It pours a clear orange color with a thick, foamy beige colored head
Flavor: The flavor is heavy on the rye and spice as well, lightly sweet, and finishes fairly bitter
Palate: The body is medium, it has average carbonation, a spicy tingle, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This one wanted to be a gusher, but I was able to save it with some speed. Anyway, I didn't love how this one worked. The combination of a ton of rye/spice with a bitter finish that doesn't add a ton of flavor other than bitterness isn't my favorite. I feel like it could have been better.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a nice rye note with some earthy pine, a bit of grass and a touch of grain. Flavor has more pine giving more of a bitterness to offset the rye and backed a bit of grass and grain.

22oz bomber pours with a clear amber copper body that supports a light tan head of foam. The modest aroma offers up pine, a bit of spicy rye and then mild earthy tea and faint floral notes. The taste starts with a pleasing resiny mix of pine hops and earthy tea hoppy notes. It then picks up some spicy rye like notes as well as slivers of earthy black currant fruitiness. This is fairly biased to the resiny bitter side of the spectrum but I love the modest earthy tea note in here that helps pull everything together.

Poured from a bottle it is a clear golden color with no head. The aroma is grapefruit and the taste is a strong grapefruit flavor that lingers on the palate

Bottle at PIB, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of rye and caramel malts, and mild resinous hops. Flavour brings out a mix of resinous hops, rye, and caramel malts. Very malt-heavy and rye dominated. The hops are rather far back. Nice stuff, but not my preference of IPAs.
