Showdown is an IPA reimagined. With a heaping addition of hardy rye, this copper-hued beauty delivers an unmistakable spicy rye character, while a burly dose of American hops evokes the piney aroma of untamed wilderness. Balanced, bold, and brave, Showdown claims the prize.

12 ounce bottle. Reddish brown color. Smallish fluffy beige head. Aroma is grainy and with obvious rye notes. Slightly yeasty and nutty, as well. First sip brings more rye and nutty, cocoa-like flavor. Further sips bring the big resiny hop character out. Intense peppery bitterness comes forward. Big and bold is this Rye IPA.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a darkish brown color with copper-red highlights and a large foamy orange-tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was pine, resin and caramel. The flavor was bitter pine, resin, sour caramel, pepper, herbal, more pine and a bit of a medicinal presence. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Decent.

Brewdog Camden. Keg. Hazy deep amber beer, good yellowish cream colour head. Palate is smooth and very slightly viscous. Modest fine carbonation. Malts are smooth and a little creamy but not that sweet. A fair bit of rye tang here and a little rye spice. Hops bring a ripe orange, a little marmalade and pine. Decent hop spice. Light semi dry finish. Heavy on the rye here but decent.

Pours a very cloudy copper-gold, with huge head (my bottled foamed over when I opened it--maybe a bad batch?). Aroma of hops, spice, citrus, some soapiness. Flavor is spicy/peppery, with some citrus and hop bitterness. I think there might be too much rye in the mix, since that tends to overpower everything else. Interesting, though not a favorite.
